“One of the worst hotels ever!!!”
Reviewed May 23, 2014

I stayed there for a night, the hotel is very very old with no modifications whatsoever. Rooms are huge but with very old furniture. There is no cleanliness in the bathrooms and the staff is also not well behaved.
The biggest issue that I faced was that at night a waiter without even knocking used a master key and got into my room, which made me furious, when i confronted him he said "by mistake" he thought he was on some other floor.
The items served in breakfast were atleast a day old for sure and the spread was very poor.
I will NOT recommend this to anyone.

Room Tip: Dont stay in this hotel

I was wary to stay at the hotel, but did stay there as I was booked in there. Also, it was next door to the conference venue.

It took me sometime to get adjusted to the idea of staying in the hotel, and then it was really good. The service was excellent and makes up for what other star hotels have. The staff are very courteous and go out of their way to provide excellent service.

The breakfast spread is not as exhaustive as most star hotels have, but has almost all what one needs - cornflakes, vegetarian, non-vegetarian, south indian, north indian .... just that the spread and ambiance isn't there. Actually, in a way that makes it easy to choose :-)

This property was booked by our travel staff. The hotels location is in prime area of Delhi and also one of the cleanliest area. Rooms are large, spacious and clean. Lobby is grand.

Pros:
Good rooms and location - peaceful
Breakfast quality is good
Tight security
courteous staff

Cons:
Central air conditioner - you cannot change room temperature
No nearby market - as this is in diplomatic enclave

Tip: Nearest metro is Racecourse - just 5 minutes away.

Room Tip: All rooms are same, though rooms on the outer periphery has a better view.

One of the old, large, ITDC (government owned) hotels of Delhi in prime locations which is still not sold out to any private hotelier. Expansive, huge lobby. Large and well-appointed rooms with reasonably good bathrooms. Generous supply of complimentary bottled drinking water, tea-coffee ensemble (much more than most 5 star hotels) and even soft drinks. The buffet breakfast was also ample in variety, and staff at the buffet very pleasant and eager to serve. Room service ordered food was great. Given the price that we paid booking through an OTA, it was extremely good value for money.

I was booked in this hotel by conference organisers. This is a well located, large property with spacious rooms and some nice furniture. This is a public sector hotel and service levels are very poor. A difficult check-in process where three staff try to figure out who should do it. When I reach the room I find that the telephone does not work. The housekeeping tells me that the phone will be set right next morning. When I go down to have dinner I find that the restaurant is closed. The reception staff do not now that the restaurant did not open that day, but still keep telling me go to the closed restaurant. The room had a coffee maker, but not milk or sugar. When I ordered one night, the food did not arrive as they were not able to make what I ordered, but forgot to tell me that they are unable to serve. A neighbouring restaurant attached to Hotel Ashok within the same compound saved the day for me. Breakfast is basic, but decent.
If you have the time and patience to deal with those who have no desire or aptitude to serve, please brave it out. Otherwise avoid the place.

Stayed for night on an official visit. What I admire the most about this hotel is their will to succeed. despite a govt owned hotel they are trying to match the hospitality extended by the private operators. The change in attitude is visible. It is altogether different issue that govt has no business to be in the hotel business.

Room Tip: It is a convenient hotel if you have work in chanakyapura. The hotel is spacious.
