The best and most indulging feast of art, life and culture.
I was personally moved by the glee, smiles and talent of the people. The walk gives you a whole new perspective as they explain you the history, civics and geography of the micro cosmos. I would love to come along with my pals again for experiencing it together.

“Profoundly positive experience!”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

Our first day of Delhi although was quite exciting yet we were searching for something fresh that the city had to offer. So, we decided to go on for something we have never even thought of being at.

And yippee, there we were with two guides amidst the hustle of city life.

Then and there we started feeling fresh and vibrant with the environment which vibrated along with us.

Smile on faces wherever we looked, children jumping, sense of togetherness, confined and happy seemed extra mundane ( at least for my taste till then). There were performances, still day life, craftsmanship and so much on the sight that we got overwhelmed.

I would highly recommend the tour to all who’ve ever wanted a similar experience and very thankful to those who’ve envisioned it!

“Colourful, joyful, educational and truly uplifting! Tops the ‘things to do in Delhi’ list!”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

The Art of Hope Tour was an unexpected day of learning, observing and joy. We saw raw musical talent in a place (slum) where the conditions of living are small and simple, but the people are happy and enthusiastic - we couldn’t take the smile off our faces by the end of the day. There was true sense of community here...we walked the streets as children ran up to us to say hello and practiced their English, and watched a puppet and drum performance all on New Years Day (the day of our tour). It was the perfect way to bring in the New Year. Our guides (Prateek and Vivek) shared a wealth of knowledge about life in the slum and what the Art of Hope Tour plans to give back to the community, they were informed, enthusiastic and sincere – they even organised the tour for us when we contacted them at the last minute! The area we visited was colourful, busy and so different to anywhere else we visited in India, it was truly unique and uplifting, an experience we’ll never forget!

“Joie de vivre”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

As a traveler I have always said yes to the excursions which brings about positive changes in the inner self. Having seen the slums in many countries from the favelas of Rio to the chawls of Mumbai I had developed a certain stereotypical view of the slums which was quite obvious.
It was only this time when we’ve been to the Puppeteers’ Colony our thinking has been turned upside down and we feel great to be a part of it.
It is a wonderland where you see craftsmen working, beautiful kids smiling and saying Hi to you, and all that seemed impossible for me to see anywhere else.
Their take on the slum is very much encouraging and participative.
We really like the idea of showing the real India, the regular India and the short on means but HAPPY India.
Given me a lot to take back and kudos to the Art of Hope team for their priceless effort!

“It gets no better than this!”
Reviewed January 3, 2013

Good God. Our Art of Hope tour continues to be my entire family's #1 rated activity in all of India, and this is after a full 3 weeks of amazing and wonderful travel experiences through out India. Our Art of Hope tour was absolutely and unspeakably glorious...we are left awestruck, and immeasurably grateful. Connecting with the "slum" residents gave each of us the gift of questioning everything we have thought previously about "slums", poverty, money, connection, love and community.

Originally, I had two concerns, neither of which came true in the least bit:
1) That this would be kind of a icky "voyeur" experience of looking at the "slum" people. Nothing could have been further from the truth, due to founder Prateek's genius of making this experience participatory, in which the residents joyously share their artistic gifts with you (everything from puppet making, to tabla drumming... and their talents are so high quality that you won't need any of the expensive dinner-arts programs throughout India).
2) That my 12-year old son would see a bit too much intense suffering: While I very much wanted him to leave India seeing stark conditions so that he would know how fortunate he was, I wasn't sure what he'd see on this slum tour. But, Art of Hope offered him the best of both worlds. Suitable for kids of all ages, my son saw TRUE poverty and decreped conditions AND that Love and Connection can be present in all conditions.

We leave this experience humbled and with great respect for the beautiful people living in the puppet colony. THEY have taught US great life lessons - not the other way around! The JOY, connection and love of these people took our breath away. What an experience! Don't miss this - worth every penny.

Thank you, Prateek! We would be honored to be your friend forever.
