Great B&B

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed May 13, 2017via mobile
Bed & Chai was a great B&B/guesthouse to stay in Delhi. It is located in Kailash Colony close to a major market where there are shops, restaurants. and nightlife. The rooms are simple and comfortable and the Ac worked well for the hot summer. There is a lovely rooftop garden for relaxing in the evenings. There is a bit of road noise on the front rooms although it was pretty quiet overall as the guesthouse is located off the street. Bed &a Chai were also great at accommodating us last minute when we were unexpectedly returning to Delhi late in the evening and made a room available to us for a late check in. A great place to stay in Delhi.

This is undoubtedly the best bed and breakfast or even hotel I can say I have ever stayed at in Delhi. After coming to Delhi for many many years and being phased out by what they tell you and what you get - this hotel really stands apart. Right from the minute you inquire about the hotel, till you check in, you get first class service. You get prompt replies, detailed answers and everything works like clockwork.

I had a back issue and Coraline, Madhu and the other staff sent photos of beds even before a booking was made, not once, not twice but many a times. The pickup from the airport was as smooth as can be. Their clear emails about pick up instructions made me feel relaxed and made me realize how professional they were.

I wasn't even asked to show ID when I checked in. This is how trusting these people are. Breakfast was brought up promptly by Madhu and I felt like I had landed in the right place. The bathroom is one of the best by Indian standards, clean and hot water works great. The meals are always on time and there are no electricity cut outs (hardly).

Coraline is a beautiful soul. Always ready to help. When my mattresses were delivered, both Madhu and Coraline physically carried them up 6 flight of stairs. I have never seen anything like this. The cook, cleaners are all prompt and everything seems to gel together in a friendly, relaxed, and down to earth environment. They don’t even ask for money till the first few days.

The room is so affordable and the location so good that I can see Coraline does not do this for money. There are organic products throughout the b and b and the feel is very rustic but it is one of those places where you have a let go a few things go which any b and b is bound to have. Some ants, certain small things with batteries not working, and small changes to staff rosters. A hotel guide book would be nice but b and b’s hardly have this anyway but it would save Coraline and the staff repeating a tone of information. But that’s just me being picky.

I'm not sure what to say. I'm sure this place will not have too many rooms in the next few years, PLEASE DON’T CHANGE. But change is one of those things isn’t it?

It is one of the few places on earth where honesty, kindness and a unconditional show of love and respect is at the bedrock of their approach.

Thank you Coraline, Madhu, the cook and all other staff for treating me with respect and showing me that places like this still exist in this world!

Room tip: I was in Rm 12 which seemed like a smaller room compared to the others I think, not sure why Coraline gave me this room but I trust her.

Bed and Chai was a great location, friendly staff, charming Utilitarian rooms. The plug points are a challenge and food overpriced, but there are plenty of options if you simply step out. M block and N block markets are close by and must explore :)

I stayed at Bed and Chai almost five months while I was doing and internship for a fair trade organisation. Initially I was only to stay a month while I was looking for other accomodation but I felt so at ease and welcomed there that I ended up staying my whole time. The staff is friendly and fun to be with and we ended up sharing many meals together. The rooms are clean and fresh, the beds are warm enough for winter and in summer there are ACs to combat the heat. The bathrooms are fresh with really good hot showers and perfect preassure. The rooftop is a really nice social space and during Diwali and Christmas the excellent guest house owner Cora organised parties/dinners there inviting all guests to join. Breakfast is well prepared, I ended up prefering the french toast and fruit salad with a freshly brewed filter coffee. I was very happy to discover that all jams were organic, made by ngos, waste was sorted, food composted, overall there is a genuine care for people and environment at Bed and Chai. I consider Bed and Chai my Delhi home and I would not dream about staying anywhere else when visiting Delhi.

Room tip: Second floor is very quiet.

Checked in for two nights just for a quick stop over I'n Dehli as one of our bags got lost by the airline. The staff where fantastic I'n helping us getting it sorted and gave us plenty of time and patience even though it took two days.

Breakfast was included with three vegetarian options to choose from, cooked by the nicest little Indian man.

The rooms where average with small thin mattresses but nice bathrooms. One room we stayed in the bed was tiny, I'm six foot and my feet where hanging off the edge the entire night. The noise is a another thing to consider as some of the rooms face the street and you hear everything.

The entrance is also hidden down a small alleyway that can be daunting in the dark, might need better signage and lighting.

Overall a nice little stay but nothing more.
