“Great architecture, not visitor friendly”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 4, 2013

The building an place is impressive by its size and beautiful Islamic architecture. However, hard to get there as it is in the middle of Old Delhi, with crowded street and people is not too friendly, not to say sometimes aggressive. Women must wear a gout (of course, they rent one there) and on our way back two guys came after her shouting and for a second we were not sure if we comitted some heresy or we were being mugged at the mesquite, but they just wanted their robe back, in a very unfriendly manner.

We were part of a bigger group, which give you the sensation of some security on the numbers. If you by yourself and are not muslim but just visiting, you have to be very adventurous.

“staff were horrible, biggest waste of time ever”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 31, 2013

The staff spot a tourist a mile off trying to take advantage of you, saying there is a 300 rupee entrance fee, but its actually free to get in! Theyre trying to charge you for a camera, but they didnt ask if i had a camera. All other sites in india have the rule that if youre going to use your camera then you have to pay, but if your not then they simply trust you.

The staff were rude, humiliating and an absolute waste of time. The Rough Guide book should be informed how disgusting the staff were, completely racist.

“Beware of scams”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 30, 2013

At the gate you have to take off you shoes. There are people who want to mind them (and charge). As you walk in they will try and make you wear a covering cape. As long as you are not showing too much flesh, don't let them put it on you, as they will charge you when you leave. If you go up onto the wall, you will be charged (we paid this) and there will be a "guide" who will also want to get money out of you. Just say no to the guide.

“Staff was pushy, mosque was pretty”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

This is one of the only attractions we didn't have a guide for, not sure we really needed it. We arrived apparently too close to the time for prayer because the staff got really pushy and practically kicked us out. There was not much to see except for the obvious. There were lots of beggars around.

“Waste of Time”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

We found the men at the entrance quite rude, trying to sell us socks, getting too close when giving us wrap around dress to wear, smoking in our face! I was disappointed with the mosque, if you have seen Blue Mosque or Hagia Sophia in Turkey you too will be disappointed. Walking around dodging pigeon poo was also tricky. We spent just a short time there and when we were leaving the guys tried to charge us for the "dresses" but we refused to pay as he hadn't mentioned a fee prior. Unless you have seen all the other sights in New Delhi, don't bother!
