Owner description: This tomb, built in 1570, is of particular cultural significance as it was the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent. It inspired several major architectural innovations, culminating in the construction of the Taj Mahal and many other Mughal architecture and garden complexes in India.

My group members often tell me we've seen many mausoleums and we should skip Humayun's Tomb. However, I insist as it is a very pleasant break from Delhi's noise and traffic. The mausoleum is situated in a lovely garden where one can have a pleasant break before going on to the next tourist spot. However, the stairs leading to the tomb are VERY steep!

When you visit a place as historical as Humayun Tomb ,going back to 1500 A.D,its an absolutely surreal experience. The sheer grandeur with which this place is built is spell-binding in itself.Parts of it is still being restored. The enormous Char-Bagh built around the tomb makes you marvel the architectural ingenuity of Persian architects.Just to the rite of the entrance, you have Isa Khan's(Officer to Sher Shah Suri) tomb and mosque, which was built when he was still alive. Its an absolute pleasure to be a part of such rich heritage, our City of Dijjins,a must visit for all.

This is one of those instances where the most recent work destroys the fame of anything which preceded it. This building is magnificent in its own right and was built way before the Taj Mahal (it's referred to as the Mini Taj Mahal), but most people (including myself) would never have heard of it, which is a great pity. If you're in Delhi, you must go and see it.

I was amazed at the sheer size of this monument. After seeing the Taj Mahal the day before, to see another structure with such similarly immense size was amazing. It does not have the intracacy of Taj, but the sheer size is worth seeing.
