Owner description: History is brought to life at this excellent museum, where artisans demonstrate traditional embroidery, weaving, carving and pottery.

The museum has a pleasant courtyard space, and looks promising based on the initial exhibit of wooden statues from an animist group known as Bhuti. Sadly many of the exhibits are faded and dusty, including textiles. The shop was rather desolate/not stocked. Young dancing girls were waiting to entertain you for money. Considering India's incredible craft culture so much more should be expected.

We enjoyed the 2 hours or so that we spent here, and there are indeed some really fine pieces in the museum. In particular the Bhuta carvings from South India were unique. However, the museum clearly gets very little attention from authorities and is run down and displays are poorly designed and maintained. On the grounds there are also some handicraft merchants who had a mix of generic stuff one can find everywhere plus a few interesting things - all at good prices however. Being a Sunday, the main museum shop was of course closed (!!)

Often, monuments and museums can be a bit dull for children. This is an excellent choice for the family. Artisans can demonstrate their crafts and are happy to interact with visitors. The examples of different buildings and structures from around the country are genuinely interesting and the courtyards on your right some distance from the entrance contain some wonderful examples of carvings. The artwork around the site is very stylised. Children will love it.
