“Bird Hospital: Near the Red Fort”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

The Bird Hospital is run in conjunction with the Jain Shri Digambar temple, located across the street from the Red Fort in Old Delhi. It seems the Bird Hospital has been in operation and funded by private donations since 1956, having nursed and cared for hundreds of thousands of birds in its time. Apparently, over 50 birds a day are brought to the Bird Hospital and there is a 70%+ recovery rate.

The Shri Dgambar temple, which is associated with the Bird Hospital is the oldest of its kind in Delhi, having been built in 1656 and is easily recognisable by its red sandstone material.

When in the area, the Chandni Chowk markets are also well worth exploring as is spending time at the Red Fort and the nearby Jama Masjid.

“great place to visit while in delhi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 15, 2013

i went to the bird hospital with a wounded cat i had found on the street. the nice personal here helped my new friend straight away, and also gave a tour of this great charity center. they help all kinds of suffering birds, and have many living there on permanent basis. i think whem going to such a poor country as india, one should also try to get a view of the reality for some of the many suffering animals or people living here. as such, this is a great option where one can also give a donation to the center. thogh i did not find the personel pushy for this. they didnt even ask for payment for treating my friend, but asked me to give a donation for what was right for me. the place might be a strong impression, but so is india in general!
