Owner description: The bustling wholesale market here is an excellent place to shop, explore, eat and soak up life in New Delhi.

Most guides will take you there anyway - if they don't, ask them to. You can climb up some (not for the faint of heart at times) steps to a rooftop overlooking the city, awash with the scent of all sorts of spices. Photo's are OK from the top, but not from the levels within the wholesale market - who knows why!

at least for any foreigner. The potpourri of sounds, smells, noises and sights remains etched on one's mind. However, will not recommend the eateries for persons with delicate stomach!

I was really looking forward to this place after seeing great reviews in my guide book and seeing it on the tv. Honestly was quite disappointed. Got here by metro and was took on a wild goose chase by the cycle rickshaw (be careful when you agree a price if there is more than one of you we agreed 50 Rs and after getting there was told he meant per person!!!) Stuck in the area to the spice market for around 15 minutes with nobody moving. The spice market is really good and the shop I went to explained all the different spices, let us try each one and spoke perfect English which is always a bonus. After you've bought your spices there isn't much else to do except have a wander! Worth a visit to say you've been but not as impressed as I thought I would be.

It is a crowded place, and usually not the place to buy on retail. Chandni chowk is cheap, but not much for retail purchase. I found karol bagh much better was shopping.
