“Colonial Style and Comfort”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

Situated in the quiet embassy area of New Delhi this hotel offers rooms with a colonial style to relax in after the hustle and bustle of the city.
The Dhaba Food Dinner prepares excellent Indian delicacies but a booking is recommended to avoid disappointment. The Pickwick Coffee shop has both European and local fare on offer.
Hotel staff were very attentive and friendly and when resolving a problem of our own making could not have been more professional and understanding in helping to resolve this matter.

A very comfortable and well located hotel in New Delhi. Good facilities including 4 diverse restaurants and a particularly nice garden and very friendly service. Not in the luxury category but a good place to stay if you are visiting or business or to see Delhi's sights.

40 min+ from airport. Set in the embassy district of New Delhi this is a very different experience from the Taj and Oberoi where we have stayed before. Not dripping with ostentatious brass but more Art Deco feel and lovely corridors.Refurbishment going on but not too intrusive.Nearby gardens but their own pretty front garden with rattan chairs and shady umbrellas was restful.. Reasonable size underused pool- many business clients and meetings.Apart from the £8 pot of tea in the garden the first day, we enjoyed it thoroughly. All kinds of food on offer. Curiously decorated bar with huge cocktail list. Seville restaurant in grounds delightfully refurbished with individual sofa tables under drapes, meandering stream and atmospheric lighting. Seriously good food superbly presented. Not cheap but worth every penny. Would return. Completely un-corporate and individualised hotel.

Claridges seems to be a little tired and needs some shaking up. It is well located, has a lovely front garden but there is something missing. The gym area is cramped and tiny and outside of the pool area it was being renovated so was noisy. The rooms are spacious and there is a choice of restaurants although you will be paying European prices. Having never been to India before I chose Claridges due to the brand name. Service was OK, nothing bad nor particularly brilliant hence the 'average' feelings about this hotel.

Hotel is new and very very nice. Reception is huge, rooms are clean and nicely decorated. Bathoom is huge. Unfortuntely service is really really bad. People are nice but they are not up to the job. reception check-in and check out are uterly slow, waiters in the restaurant are incredibley slow. Dont go to this place and expect to go anywhere walking distance (you will understand when you go there). So overall a beautiful hotel but staff need lots of training.

Claridges is quite a haven of peace. We arrived and left in the middle of the night, but all the front desk staff were attentive and we slept well.
I thought breakfast was good and particularly liked the whole honeycomb, hung up for you to scrape some onto your toast or cereal - never seen this anywhere else!
Concierge advised us to go to Diili Haat market on our first day which is one of the best and most sensibly priced craft markets we found on our two week trip. Also prepared to give sensible restaurant recommendations (see reviews) within easy reach, so we never tried the hotel for dinner.

Positives- Helpful and competent staff. Nice rooms. Good lawn area.

Negatives- Cramped breakfast area, expensive wi-fi, hotel feels like it has too many guests on the premises.

Overall- Stay if location is important. The niggles are a few but easily ignored and overcome
