“Bit tired and slow service”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights on the beginning of an India adventure with friends. Would probably rate this hotel as a decent 4 star, but no more than that. Location was excellent. Close to Khan market which I discovered was in walking distance and had bars, restaurants and shops that seemed visitor friendly but not tourist traps.
We were 3 adults travelling together so they upgraded us to a family room, which was a good size but very strange shape, and basically had no windows. Or those windows it did have faced onto a wall so we just kept the blinds shut anyway.

They knew it was 3 people in the room, but no extra bed upon arrival at midnight, and it took nearly an hour to get the bed delivered. I was not a happy camper about that.

Bonus was we got to use the Pool at the Taj Mahal hotel, a sister property. very nice way to relax and wash away the heat and dirt after a day sightseeing.

There was a trainee (mgr) there who was very helpful with information regarding our sightseeing day around Dehli. But he was really the only member of staff that seemed to engage and take extra interest in our visit. Shame I can't remember his name.

very big room (approx 40m2) with a big bathroom, wifi internet in the room, big LCD TV, indian and continental food, a lovely terrasse for the meals, and very friendly employees. Dont look too much on the details and cleaness. As usual new delhi is always noisy, it is also the case in this part of the city. Near the hotel is the Kan market...you can found eveything, including a local mc donnalds. Also a big park belongs to the hotel.

Room Tip: ask for a room with no view on the main streets

As a television news journalist for many years I was sent from story to story around the world, in more than 60 countries, and so I have stayed in hundreds of hotels. Some of the finest hotels in the world and then some, in conflict zones, bravely barely able to keep the electricity on.
But never in all those years have I found a hotel with this one's joyous sense of charm, hospitality and professionalism as the Taj Ambassador in New Delhi. From the cleaners to the front desk staff to the General Manager this hotel understands how to make a guest treasure the experience of staying in a phenomenal atmosphere of kindness, service and elegance. There was never a request which was not responded to instantly and there never an employee who did greet one and all graciously with a smile and kind word. It is literally service beyond any I have experienced on four continents regardless of the room charge or glamorous reputation.
Luckily I shall be returning soon and look forward to once again being treated to the Taj Ambassador’s unsurpassed hospitality. For me out of the hundreds of hotels where I have stayed, primarily because of its staff, the Taj Ambassador has no equal for its hospitality in my experience around the world.

Located in the heart of the city & adjacent to the very urban Khan market, Ambassador is a very decent choice for a comfortable stay in Delhi. The problem is that when you see the TAJ tag you expect everything to be just WOW. So dont with the TAJ expectations. Else the place is very satisfactory, The services are very good, the food is delicious.

If you are ready to shell out a couple of grands more i would recommend the Taj Palace in Delhi much closer to the airport & in close proximity to the posh south delhi malls & market.

Room 115 (1 night, vacated due to noise) and 313, 6 nights

The Bad:
The hotel advertises "Newly Designed Bathrooms." When was "new", 1960? This is just a false advertisement!!!
Bathroom was OK, but does not fit the advertisement - hot water temp and pressure too low in the mornings, OK at night.
The breakfast area is too small to serve this hotel when full. The fruit at breakfast hides in a small display that is too small to get my big mits into, so every morning is some game of "hunt the fruit" Coffee seved too cool - I soon asked for Hot Coffee.
Garden - nice, but only room for one! If someone is there before you, too bad!
Hotel lifts - tiny.
Noise from the front - I could not sleep in room 115.
No pool - will shuttle you to another hotel, but why no pool?

The good:
Chinese restaurant V Good
Staff good.
Management very helpful.
Security felt good.

Lovely base for exploring Delhi. Superb staff and food in both restaurants.
We had a beautiful room overlooking the front garden, then two different rooms as we returned twice during our time in India for travelling purposes. Rooms are lovely and spacious.
