“A revitalized Taj”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2012

I stayed for a week at this hotel recently, after a lapse of 9 years. The hotel has been significantly refurbished, and is much better than my last visit. The rooms are modern and pleasant, with a glass-walled bathroom, one touch buttons for all functions etc. The food is generally good, and the Blue Bar is well-designed with a good view of the lit-up pool and garden at night. The service is excellent throughout the hotel. Definitely an improved Taj!

Stayed for a couple of days. The service was excellent at all levels from housekeepers to front desk. They sent a complimentary cake and a bunch of roses to my room on my birthday. The restaurants are also very nice, just make sure you book in advance. The size of the room was not as big as equivalent rooms in other hotels of the same group and some furniture could do with an update, but the beds were very comfortable and by far the best asset of this hotel is its staff and the quality of service they provide.

One of the very best business hotels that you would ever go to in India. We spent our Valentines Day there and as expected all the services rendered were beyond expectations. The hotel staff made sure to make our stay as memorable as possible, restaurant services were prompt.

My wife and I were on a whirlwind tour of the Golden Triangle and only stayed one night and two days at this hotel and wished we could have stayed longer.

The service at this property is outstanding - bellmen, housekeepers, front desk personnel, pool attendant, waiters (The Tea Lounge, Orient Express and Kafe Fontana), and concierge. They all just seemed to know you wanted/needed something before you even knew it. We had been relaxing by the pool for about an hour on a comfortable afternoon (but cool for the locals) the attendant brought us some tea and said he thought we would like it. It really hit the spot.

On our way back to the room from the pool area where we had both been reading books (the old-fashioned kind) we stopped in the business lounge to check our email and the attendant commented that we must like to read which generated a short conversation and I thought that was that. Shortly after returning to our room a hotel employee arrived and suggested we might have use of some Taj Palace Hotel bookmarks.

Dinner at the Orient Express was exceptional with a good variety of offerings and top notch service. It was the kind of place where the waiter always seemed to anticipate our needs without hovering.

The only negatives about the hotel - internet and traffic. For such a pricey hotel, I would expect wireless availability throughout. It was not available and you were only allowed 30 minutes of free access per day, but only in the Business Lounge. Many other hotels I have stayed in India include free wireless.

Because of the physical location and because Delhi's traffic is so congested, getting away from the hotel was somewhat problematic. It took a long time to get anywhere from the hotel during the daytime so if plan to leave the hotel property, plan on extra time to navigate the traffic.

If/when I return to New Delhi, this hotel would be the first place I would check into.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms offer a quiet, serene location.

Just back after five nights at this hotel (February 2012)
Ths was my first stay at a "Taj" Hotel, and if ever I return to India, it would be a Taj hotel I would look for first.
It is unusual, even at this standard to find such attention to detail as I found here. Without doubt it is one of the finest Hotels I have stayed. (I did not have a club room, we were on the fifth floor)
The quality of Furnishings, Bathroom, Towels (Two bath sheets, two hand towels three or four flannels, changed every day) Toiletries. Bedsheets, Pillows all changed every day. Just shear luxury. I loved it!!
One must never forget the staff, it's all down to the individual who you come in contact with that confirms (or otherwise) your perception of an establishment. Here there was no problem. Thier appearance, the attitude, the eagerness to please was all apparent.
If you are going to Delhi, You would not be dissapointed with this Hotel.

Service is a bitter disappointment- I am currently staying at this property and had dinner last night at the Vietnamese restaurant, Blue Ginger. At one point during meal, I stepped outside on terrace to take a mobile call and was accosted by a waiter as he pushed my 6'-3" frame several feet away so he could make way for what I assume was a VIP guest. Needless to say, this is a high-priced hotel and I expect better service and not to be treated as a second-class guest. Avoid this the Taj Palace if you can, I would recommend the Oberoi Gurgaon or Imperial- neither are plagued by the 2-star service at the Taj Palace's 5-star prices.

We stayed here two nights and then another night a few days later in February 2012. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a room on the Taj Club floor. The first room had a view of the pool, which we thought was quieter, while the second visit was a view of the city (and the traffic) and the sound of traffic and horns could be heard (faintly). The rooms were modern and felt fairly new. Quite spacious too.
All staff were outstanding and very happy to help. The concierge arranged Indian SIM cards for us, which was fantastic. At breakfast, one of the staff spent 20 minutes finding us a map and showing us where he thought the best places were. Whoever we asked to help was prompt and pleasant.
We ate at one of the restaurants - the Orient Express. Great experience and really good international food. Pricey for India at $80 each, but for a special night and a break from Indian, it was good.
Drinks and snacks by the pool were such a nice break after the hustle and bustle of Delhi.
It was a wonderful hotel and felt great to get into after the noise and crowds of Delhi- a lovely respite. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to the Taj Club and a pool view room.
