“A very good hotel but quality control not what it should be”
Reviewed December 14, 2011

An elegant, classy five star hotel but just lacks that extra something to make it an excellent hotel.  That said service levels are almost universally excellent.

The hotel is very  well located relative to the airport and not too far from centre of Delhi and the major monuments etc.  However, it is in a diplomatic enclave and there is no street life around the hotel.

I stayed here twice on my last trip, once in a Taj Club room which was very comfortable with no real issues and once in a newly renovated room on the fourth floor which was a somewhat different story. While the renovation has been very good in some ways, quality control does not appear to have been what it should and certainly not what you would expect of the Taj Group.  For example, the tap fell off when I tried to have a shower, while the power board above the desk had been firmly attached to the wall at a very obvious angle.  The new mattress was also very hard.

While there is wireless internet throughout the hotel, its functionality left  quite a lot to be desired. While the wireless signal was almost always very strong, there was often no actual Internet connectivity, which appeared to suggest that the Hotel's server was dropping on and off the net.

For those who need it, I found the  Business Centre to be extraordinarily helpful and efficient.

There is a good range of restaurants and, for those wanting a break from Indian food, the Orient Express is a  great restaurant, even if it is expensive.

We had been to Delhi for our first anniversary and Taj is indeed a best place for the event.Right from ambience, room, food and service everything was exceptionally good and they had also complimented us with a dinner on our anniversary. It is really a place to spend time leisurely and in a luxurious manner with family..

Room Tip: All rooms are good enough

Its a convenient hotel in Delhi close to the airport and is very good for business people and conferences. A tad expensive to eat but quiet convenient. It has fairly good rooms and the staff is very cordial and non-intrusive. Truly a Taj product of efficiency. The ambience is good and not noisy considering the hotels in Delhi otherwise

Room Tip: Take the rooms not facing the main road, they are extremely quiet

I had stayed in Taj Palace for a day and the most important thing I liked was their hosptality. Firstly i had another option of ITCMayura or Taj but, considering the feedback I got, i opted for Taj palace only. Though initially i felt the charges were a bit on higher side, but I found it really worthy after finishing my stay.

The hotel staff were very helpful and co-operative. Overall, excellent hotel stay it was for my business trip.

Something about the Taj, she still is very fascinating. From the time you walk into the lobby and the welcome you get from the most courteous staff, to being ushered into your room, its a warm welcome, truly. And then the new club rooms of the Taj Mahal Hotel, is but a home away from home. For the corporate traveler, I am yet to see any other hotel chain make the guest feel truly at home. They know my preferences, my likes, my little pet peeves and all of it is taken care of. That is probably why my wife sleeps in peace knowing the other woman 'THE TAJ' will take care of me and I am tucked into bed well. Thank you Taj.

Room Tip: The Pool facing rooms are always my choice.

We enjoyed three nights here. The staff members were friendly and the service was excellent. The Business Center was well staffed and helpful. Internet access was good if not a little pricey. At the Tea Lounge and minibar local beers were $10 each. The pool looked inviting but we were busy touring and did not try it. The food for breakfast was sufficiently diverse for any palate. We preferred to eat several excellent dishes of Indian cuisine and that intrigued the wait staff who were thus friendly and engaged.

The floor above us was under renovation and the noise would have been difficult for many of us whose jet lagged bodies demanded sleep during their work hours. Worse, a strong odor of solvents drifted into our room and remained too strong to tolerate so we abandoned the room until late evening. For this, I have reduced the rating from a preferred four star to three star.

The hotel suddenly had a new menu at the Tea lounge and bumped up the prices by unto 50% from one day to the other. In all fairness, the hotel can charge anything and who are we to complain? "Don`t like, go elsewhere" is the rule at large. But I find it strange that for no apparent reason price are shot during a period of global austerity and falling prices in a market facing stiff competition. Not to mention hacked corporate allowances that visitors are suffering in the corporate world.

Perhaps they are having to compete on the room tariff with other hotels and making it up on Tea, Coffee and food?

A hotel with good service but a terrible thing to do for pricing. If one plans on using F&B during the stay one must compare F&B rates with the competition also.
