“Oasis in Delhi”
Reviewed November 7, 2010

The Imperial Hotel is an oasis in the hussle bussle of Delhi. Comfortable elegant rooms. Very good service. Enjoyed dining in the various restaurants and afternoon tea on the lawns. Lovely pool. Highly recommend for business or leisure.

My wife and I stayed at the Imperial twice during our recent trip to India. On our first stay we were upgraded to a Heritage room. This was a first class room with modern features and extremely comfortable. On our return visit, we had booked a Heritage room but on arrival were upgraded to a suite - Room 366. This room was a disaster.

The room itself was a little dingy as it faced in to an internal courtyard. However at night bright floodlights were switched on outside. The curtains were too small to cover the window with the result that the room was flooded with light. On request the floodlights were switched off but there was still sufficiently strong external light to render sleep very difficult. On complaining about the problem, hotel staff replaced the curtains and attached velcro to keep out the light for the second night of our stay.

On the second night though an air conditioning unit malfunctioned on the roof above our room and the resultant noise was so loud as to prevent sleep. On notifying reception, a maintenance man fixed the problem at 3.30am. The same maintenance man then had to return to fix the overhead lights that had completely failed.

The following day, the duty manager accepted without argument that there had been problems and arranged for us to switch rooms. He also kindly provided some financial recompense for the two disastrous nights. Throughout the process the attitude of the hotel staff was absolutely fantastic. They were punctilious in their efforts to deal with our problems and no praise is high enough for their attitude.

The rest of our stay passed without incident and we hugely enjoyed all that the hotel had to offer. Room 366 is clearly a problem room and there is another report on Trip Advisor that recounts an equally unhappy experience. But I am prepared to acknowledge this as an aberration and based on the rest of our experience would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel - just avoid Room 366!

PS - This hotel charges for internet access, a practice I deplore. It provides TV for free so why not internet access too?

My husband and I stayed at the Imperial for six weeks (sept/oct 2010) and could not have imagined staying at a more welcoming, more comfortable, more accommodating hotel. The management and staff continually went beyond the expected and made our stay the most enjoyable time we have ever had at a hotel. The building is regal, the decor fabulous-one could spend hours looking at the artwork hung throughout the hotel. Of course the hotel has thought to offer guided tours of the hotel's collection.

The substantial pool is a real treat and gorgeous. The hotel will soon have one of the regions best spas and a new fitness centre.

The breakfast selections were extensive, fresh and beautifully displayed and prepared. The hotel has several high quality restaurants. We were never disappointed with our meals and we ate in the hotel often. This is a special hotel.

This hotel has some breath taking interiors. It is centrally located with all shopping points and restaurants nearby. The morning breakfast buffet is something special. The staff services is completely satisfying. Definitely a thumbs up.

This is simply the best hotel. Location, luxury and restuarants and pool - are all an oasis after immersing oneself in the business outside the high gate.
Great market shoe stores that sell sandles and summer slides, just across the road, restaurants and other attractions within a short cyclo ride.
This is the lap of luxury and I dream of returning soon.
The breakfast room, service and selection are fabulous. Many wonderful restaurant choices within the hotel - all demonstrating cuisines from different locations and exotic decor to match.
This is my favourite location in Delhi. It has old fashioned service, and reeks of imperial India. We have stayed here twice on the same trip. Typically when traversing the streets and delights of Delhi, we change into our hiking boots and prtective footwear - we feel like we transform into a butterfly when we re-emerge into the elegant surrounds and refinements.
India and Delhi are simply fabulous - this hotel is a treat and a treasure. It adds to the experience.

Spectacular hotel, amazing service, out of this world luxury - I wish european hotels could offer such a luxurious and sumptuous surroundings and atmosphere.

Often hotels look better in photographs then in real life. This hotel is one of rare exceptions. The photos of the hotel just bare no resemblance to the actual beauty of the property. The finishes are amazing, the whiskey bar is just like being in another time, the fountains in anterooms on the way to the main bar (1911 I think) and the paintings on the walls of maharajas are just dreamy.

It is hard to rate value when spending hundreds of euros a night. This place is pure luxury so just enjoy it, value is not something you should concern yourself with in this case.
