My wife and I stayed at the Imperial twice during our recent trip to India. On our first stay we were upgraded to a Heritage room. This was a first class room with modern features and extremely comfortable. On our return visit, we had booked a Heritage room but on arrival were upgraded to a suite - Room 366. This room was a disaster.
The room itself was a little dingy as it faced in to an internal courtyard. However at night bright floodlights were switched on outside. The curtains were too small to cover the window with the result that the room was flooded with light. On request the floodlights were switched off but there was still sufficiently strong external light to render sleep very difficult. On complaining about the problem, hotel staff replaced the curtains and attached velcro to keep out the light for the second night of our stay.
On the second night though an air conditioning unit malfunctioned on the roof above our room and the resultant noise was so loud as to prevent sleep. On notifying reception, a maintenance man fixed the problem at 3.30am. The same maintenance man then had to return to fix the overhead lights that had completely failed.
The following day, the duty manager accepted without argument that there had been problems and arranged for us to switch rooms. He also kindly provided some financial recompense for the two disastrous nights. Throughout the process the attitude of the hotel staff was absolutely fantastic. They were punctilious in their efforts to deal with our problems and no praise is high enough for their attitude.
The rest of our stay passed without incident and we hugely enjoyed all that the hotel had to offer. Room 366 is clearly a problem room and there is another report on Trip Advisor that recounts an equally unhappy experience. But I am prepared to acknowledge this as an aberration and based on the rest of our experience would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel - just avoid Room 366!
PS - This hotel charges for internet access, a practice I deplore. It provides TV for free so why not internet access too?
