Private Guided Tour of Delhi's Markets

If you come out of the new delhi railway station -- Exit from platform Number 1 then you find this busy running center known as Pahar Ganj ( Prounced as Pahad Gunj -- Delhi style of pronounciation ) . This area is full of business. Most of the Foreigners roam around this area. So you can expect the rates are also high in this area. The shops around this area try to make the most profit out of you if you are not smart. Here almost 95 percent of the shops goes on bargaining. Any shop in this area Bargain to the least the max the shop keepers can do is not offer the things you bargained if they dont like, Say for example they say too much ask for 1/8 if you are lucky enough you can get it or can afford untill 1/4 of the price if you are not that much on the bargaining skills. Valuable advice - Never purchase most of the things in the same shop they will compensate for the other things you bought earlier and make huge profits on the way you bargain.
You get all the foods which are reasonable and ok.
Foreigners be careful the vendors try to make the best out of you.
Also if you didnt book any hotels online and are insearch of the hotels dont take any auto or rickshaw they mis lead you and take to the hotels of their choice and are paid huge comissions from hotels for bringing you to them.
Most Important dont ask the auto or Rickshaw person to call you hotel number as they may dial to their friends number and tell you that the hotel you booked is full or the way is blocked.
Never give them a chance to fool you , instead you call the Hotel number from your mobile or a public phone.

Paharganj is a popular market which has various shops, hotels, and restaurants, bars, and bakeries etc. serving different cuisine, Indian dishes to treat your belly, cheap items to take away as mementos and give the whole Indian experience. It is accessible via the metro and can be reached, after that, via Autos. Beware of hookers and haggles and some who try to con you.

Paharganj is conveniently located as it is quite close to the Metro station. One can also take an Auto or some other commute till the market for meager amount. This market is a 15 minute walk away if one decided to walk. However it is a shady part of town and one should be careful of louts and touts alike. It has a lot of hotels, shops, restaurants and some can be quite classy too. There is even a bar here though the crowd was questionable. The shops have pretty cheap merchandise. However the conclusion is that Delhi has some better, safer and cleaner markets than this place.

Crowded and hassly, but without the perceived intimidation of old Delhi.

Basically it is just 1 street of wholesale prices - scarves from £1 and cushion covers from 50p

On a walking distance from New Delhi train station, with the Main Bazaar cutting through the middle (in many ways similar to Bangkok's Khao San Road), this is undoubtedly the backpacker's hub of Delhi. Crowded, hectic, packed with hotels and handicraft shops. Good place to stay for two or three days if Delhi is just a starting point on your trip.
