A place to recommend if you prefer staying in a house more than in an hotel. Excellent food.

This hotel is a gem and a good find. The staff are without exception very courteous and helpful, with nothing being too much trouble for them. In the main the rooms are lovely and spacious, but be warned the Topaz room is noisy. The rooftop is a good place to relax. The breakfasts were excellent, but if eating at other times of the day, and if in a hurry, it is better to pre-order, the reason being, we think, that everything is cooked from fresh. The mention of gardens on the website is misleading as is the use of the word mansion. This is unfortunate as there is no need for this, the overall experience of the hotel being very good.

I had a fantastic stay here for 6 nights at the end of Feb 2011. The staff is the highlight of this place, so helpful and cordial. Called taxis for me and helped me hail down rickshaws and negotiated the correct rates with the drivers. The kitchen staff is great as well.

The food is a close second, fabulous breakfasts (any time of the day and served in room or in the cozy dining room). Don't miss the crepes with a teaspoon of honey. Clean, tasteful rooms with fast, free wireless access. I also really liked the "living room," where I had friends over to entertain for two nights and was set up with drinks etc. I also had the dinner there one night after a long day and the food was great with a killer chicken curry.

The terrace although closed most of that week due to rain would be a good place to hang out. Also, on my last day there, even though I checked out at noon, I was offered a room to shower before I got on my late night flight which was super helpful after a long day of sightseeing.

We would like you to know that it was a pleasure for us to welcome you at Amarya Villa.
We are delighted that you enjoyed the french crepes we serve for breakfast. They are of course one of the signature of the food services we provide.
Even though the reciepe will remain secret, it would be our pleasure to serve them to you again very soon.

Best wishes,

I stayed here 3 times in a period of a months trip of travelling through India and as fate would have it this hotel with it's lovely staff became my homebase. As a seasoned traveller that has stayed at various hotels around the world it is totally unique the attention paid to you at the Amarya and any request met with graciousness and efficiency- from a car for the day, sightseeing arrangements, food requests and times of meals. It truly feels like you are staying in a friend's home. The food is delicious-both Indian and Western. The only possible room for improvement is the water pressure and amount of hot water in the shower but everything else being so delightful-no biggie. I had to book at short notice and reservations and airport pickup arrangements were made swiftly with great communication. There should be outposts of this hotel throughout the world-they really got it right!

My family and I recently stayed here on our visit to Delhi. We started our holiday here on the 1st night and left our luggage and then came back after our visit to Agra and Jaipur. We booked this place after reading the sterling reviews and have to say that the service was warm and the ambience as delightful as described. We had a family room at the top floor which was beautifully decorated with our own private balcony and a nice ensuite with lovely smelling toiletries. There were many delightful touches such as the warm welcome by their staff any time of the day you arrived, the mobile phone that they provide guests, the fluffy towels and bathrobes and the tasty and freshly prepared breakfast. The rooms were clean and everything was new since they have only recently started. The staff were also very pleasant and assisted with queries on restaurants, shopping places etc and were children friendly.

The negatives - mainly their rates. We were charged Rs500 for a simple penne carbonara which would have cost far less elsewhere and was even more than some 5 star hotels and the room was Rs 9,800 for the 2 adults and 2 children with an extra bed. (as a comparison, we paid Rs7,000 for a suite at the Gateway hotel in Agra (part of the Taj group) and less for 2 rooms at the Trident in Jaipur. A few additional things that would go towards making it more comfortable and to justify the room rates would be - the water pressure in the shower is very low and therefore trying to take a quick shower during the tail end of winter when its chilly was a challenge; providing bedroom slippers as the floor can be chilly in winter (I had taken a pair just in case so we were fine although we had to share amongst the four of us). Soundproofing - perhaps this can be looked into since the din of the cars and honking can be heard at night.

It's quite hard to find the place since there is no signage outside and the taxi driver had to go around a bit on the first day before finding the address but apart from that, the location is quite good as its not too far from some of the sights and is reasonably close to shopping areas such as Hauz Khas, Connaught place etc although traffic in Delhi can be a bit of a nightmare during rush hours.

By pure luck I became acquainted with Amarya Villa after befriending a foreign couple on a flight into Indira Gandhi International. Sight unseen they reserved a room in this property which only opened it's doors in October 2010. After my rapid walk-through of the front entrance and lobby, plus their delight with the facilities, I was impressed enough to reserve a room upon my future return to Delhi just 3 weeks later.

The French owners took what they describe as a city mansion, and transformed it into a home-away-from-home. Finding Amarya Villa can prove tricky if arriving after a late night touchdown into the airport. There is no sign nor placards pointing guests in the right direction. It takes good old fashioned street number reading to arrive at the nondescript building just inside the upscale Safdarjung Enclave. Any trepidations immediately vanish upon passing through the white picket fence gate. New arrivals are met with smiles and welcomes by any number of the friendly, well spoken staff.

Crushed rock lines a narrow stone pathway leading past the building on the left, and the continuing white picket fence on the right. Privacy comes easily from this high fence blocking views of the street and surrounding neighbors. At the end of the pathway is a small, efficient office where no request too big or small is handled with the simplest asking. Adjacently located through French doors is a beautifully decorated lobby dripping in traditional vibrant Indian colors. This large space conveys a warm feeling with large glass doors on either end, a luxurious glass chandelier in multi-colored hues, and simple, elegant furnishings which exude meticulous thought and caring into their existence.

Access to guest rooms comes via a winding staircase quietly positioned in the corner. Upstairs, the ambiance turns into a homogeneous stark white cocoon broken up with scattered doors here and there. Unlock any door to discover well appointed rooms so neat and clean they can honestly be called spotless. Color once again enters the environment by way of whimsical bedding, wall designs, paint choices and unique lighting fixtures. Tourists will enjoy the modern bathroom complete with dark marble, bulky porcelain sinks, chrome fixtures and the open glass showers.

Downstairs houses a spacious yet intimate dining area tastefully decorated in a way to let the food provide the visual stimulation. Breakfast is included in the room rate and may be enjoyed here or in the guest rooms. Simple lunch choices are available although a bit on the high end compared to local cafes. Dinner is chef's choice, prepared on-site in the sleek stainless steel outfitted kitchen adjacent the dining room. This area too, is so neat and clean that guests are welcome to pop their heads in for a peek. No Delhi belly here.

The vibrant city of New Delhi, in the northern reaches of India, offers so many wonderful hotel and guest house options that picking one is nearly impossible. Amarya Villa, with years of experience from two sister properties, perfectly executes the Indian guest house experience. A terrific staff, sumptuous rooms, relaxing common areas and understated privacy tucked away in a walking friendly area of this booming city make this new property the only choice from New Delhi tourists.

Cost: Rs 6000 for a deluxe room. Included taxes, breakfast and unlimited WiFi throughout the property.

After several stays at Amarya Haveli we were wondering whether the Villa would be up to the same very personal and comfortable standard- it didn't disappoint, probably it is a little more sophisticated in decor. Clean airy rooms with stylish personal touches, it feels more like a private home. The breakfsat was lovely, the staff are very helpful, the drivers they arrange don't get lost and you can relax and enjoy a Kingfisher on the Terrace at the end of a working day ... we will be back.
