“Pleasant surprise”
Reviewed April 16, 2012

I think I am not a snob but goodJapanese food was something I expected to eat only at high end restaurants like Wasabi and Sakura. So, when we were at the DLF promenade , we took a leap of faith and entered Izakaya. The clientele looked mostly Japanese which boded well. We thoroughly enjoyed our Sushi, our ebi tempura...the prawns could have been bigger but the batter was very good. Our spinach salad and we had pork belly. A very good meal and fairly value for money.
Attentive staff and our food came promptly. Definitely a place I'd like to go again.

“Excellent. Service and Food.”
Reviewed November 21, 2011

Good japanese Restaurants in India are few and far between. previously I would only go to Wasabi at the Taj Mansingh (Fabulous), but a friend recommended this place. it's in the DLF Promenade Mall and while the mall is just as awful as all shopping malls there are some good restaurants here, Italia as well as some bad ones, Vedas springs to mind. however Izakara is a good one. I had made a reservation, and while having an email confirmation from the manager, there was no record on the check in desk, not a good first impression and quite a rude welcome from the lady on the waiters desk. However there were tables available and as we entered the restaurant all the staff greet you in unison, a nice touch and well delivered. The tables are quite small and too close together but the ambience is good. The waiter was very good and obviously trained unlike so many others in Delhi, the Executive Chef came to make some suggestions as we were looking for some specific dishes and all were very helpful, the sushi and sashimi were wonderful as were the tepanyaki prawns and udon noodles. Service was excellent, unobtrusive but alert and all in all a great eveing. Cost about 6000 rs for two with beer. well worth another try.

“Good Bento and Great Sushi Tasty Authentic Japanese food”
Reviewed August 8, 2011

This place must try for people who want to experience good sushi. its available in many different rolls and choices for vegetarians too. From the moment you enter you are in the land of the rising sun. You are greeted in japanese and you walk through a zen rock garden to reach your table. The food tastes authentic even people who think raw fish tastes bad will will be converted here and ones who don't wanna eat any thing non-veg there in a good choice of veg Sushi and other dishes.
one think you'll like will be the Bento which means a decorated lunchbox in Japanese. its a small pretty box which will have small portions of different dishes which add up to make a complete lunch.

For those who love good Sushi it will be a paradise. you can even request for authentic Japanese sushi rolls ( they are little different with sea weed on outside ).
also you can try sake but sadly it's served by bottle so for a couple its difficult to finish.

there is also a small private dining area which has no chairs and you sit and eat sushi the japanese way.

I must say its a good place to try, must visit if you are in promenade mall n felling hungry.

“Oishi ne”
Reviewed June 22, 2011

The red lantern and the kanji are not the only Japanese things which attract you here.As you walk past you can see the interior of the restaraunt with its pebbled entrance walk and stools giving you a clear whisper of the waiting ambiance. The staff who greet you are warm in their irrashaimase in traditional Japanese unison.

The chef is truly Japanese form Tokyo.the silent TV monitors take you on a dirigibles view of Tokyo's skyline while you wander through the menu.
The menu is simple and easy to read with the drinks and food menu in one book so you don't struggle with varying sizes of menus for making a decision.

The menu is brief but yet wide in its coverage. They make an excellent ebi tempura with large prawns and also a tonkatsu. They have several chicken dishes to perhaps cater to the north Indian palate but dont mercifully make natto regularly for the same reason!
I really liked the food. The sushi is from rolls but you get a generous 8 pieces in one plate. The wasabi is genuine and the aroma is refreshing.
They have a good choice of sake and shochu as well as several wines and other non Japanese drinks
The atmosphere is like a Japanese neighbourhood restaurant and its location on a busy floor of the mall is like an oasis of calm inside away from the bustling sounds outside.
Its never too crowded so you can get a table; its also not too empty to make you feel that you are in it alone!

If you like Japanese food then you must go to izakaya. If you dont know what it is, then you must go for an introductory experience.Perhaps the staff will explain better than what they did to us.Thee can also add chopstick use lessons for beginners!

The restarunt is not expensive but neither is it a daily use place Reasionable cost for good food!

“Great food and value for money”
Reviewed October 15, 2010

After spending some time in Japan, I can honestly say that the food here is really up to Japanese standards. The portions are large and the prices relatively low - great value for money!

The atmosphere was the only downside of this restaurant - it was almost empty and looked a bit sad. However, we were there during lunchtime, so maybe there is more people in the evenings. I didn't like the fact that they had international music instead of Japanese - this surely effected the atmosphere a lot.
