Tree Tops
Ranked #36 of 1,145 New Delhi B&B and Inns
Reviewed January 22, 2013

Tree Tops is a lovely B&B in a home located in a convenient area, featuring beautiful furnishings and top-notch food. Tannie and Murad were helpful hosts, giving us a ride with them into town on our first day, arranging transportation, etc., which was very much appreciated.

Although we had been very much looking forward to the cooking courses, however, the inquiry that we made on the first day was unfortunately never followed up on. This was likely due to the fact that Tannie had caught a cold during our stay, which I obviously have no complaint with. Given the fact that at least two e-mail inquiries regarding the cooking course made prior to our visit were also never acknowledged, however (and that no concrete information regarding the courses is provided on the website), I was led to wonder whether they ever would have materialized even had Tannie not been ill.

It was also rather unsettling when Tannie less-than-subtly indicated on more than one occasion that my partner and I should hurry up and leave the table so that she and her husband could sit and eat with the other, clearly preferred guests. (It was unclear why there were only four chairs provided at the enormous table, which could have easily accommodated the eight persons staying in the house). We had apparently incurred Tannie's ill will because of having asked for a small space heater for our room (we visited Delhi the week where it recorded its coldest winter temperatures in over 50 years, and we were staying downstairs in the study, which was dark and cold). Or perhaps we fell on her bad side after she realized that we were a same-sex couple. Whatever the reason, it was disappointing to witness such blatant favoritism at a B&B promising a welcoming sort of "stay in our home" experience.

Most guests seem to enjoy their stay here, and we did in fact enjoy many aspects of our own, including the opportunity to chat with many other lovely travelers. In the interest of full disclosure, however, I am including the unsavory experiences along with the positive.

Room Tip: I would avoid the downstairs study, which in addition to being cold for winter travelers, is also ri...

I want to thank Tannie and Murad for a wonderful introduction to India. We stayed our first and last three nights at Tree Tops. The guesthouse is charming and well situated; close to both Hauz Khas metro and village. As hosts Tannie and Murad were wonderful. They gave good advice on what to do and see in Delhi and were great conservationists. They also went above and beyond when we missed our flight home; helping us to arrange another and keeping us generally calm! I really cannot thank them enough and would highly recommend them and their guesthouse to anyone thinking of travelling to Delhi.

our first two nights in india were spent at tree tops, and we are grateful for that: we had a big and spotless room, the house has great location in a residential area, close to the metro station yet far from the dehli noise. Our hosts, Tannie and Mourad, made us feel at home and gave us a lot of percious informaiton on how to tackle India. Once back in dehli after our 3 weeks trip through Rajasthan, were were welcome back like old friends !

Room Tip: the room on the top floor is more secluded

Tannie and Murad are very welcoming hosts and a very interesting couple. The Tree Tops guest house is located in Hauz Khas enclave which is a nice district of New Delhi, is within a short walk of a metro station, has plenty of local amenities and provided us with a good base for our tour of New Delhi.

The rooms were comfortable, the breakfasts delicious and the advice from Tannie and Murad regarding how to get around was useful. If you need reliable wifi they have it also.

Probably the best thing I can say about Tree Tops is that we stayed there when we first arrived in India and enjoyed our stay so much that we booked a further three nights there at the end of our stay.

Our room was very big and nice. It is very green and quiet there, so it was good to relax a bit from noisy India. But nevertheless you are close to the metro and can got the City centre easily.

Tannie and Murad are very friendly and helpful. They had good advices for sightseeing and dinner. Besides it was nice to have breakfast with them and to hear interesting stories and informations about India. We enjoyed our stay very much and we can absolutely recommend this place.

This is quite a decent place. Location is good, you are only a short tuktuk-ride away from the somewhat trendy HK Enclave, there is a park across the street, and a small shopping area within 2 mins. Tannie and Murad are very helpful, they made suggestions, and several phonecalls for our next destination. Yes, you are living in somebody's home if that matters to you, it's a homestay, but the rooftop is quite private, and they did not mind to let me into their private quarters either. I didn't mind listening to Murad, i usually take what i get, he is a well educated and experienced man, and I read his book too. We were welcome to use their library and computers. Rooms are decent and clean, it is not a luxury hotel. Perhaps slightly overpriced, but then again i have just experience from other cities in India, not Delhi. On the downside, their taxidriver took us shopping on a sightseeing trip which was uncomfortable, and overcharged us a bit, and it felt awkward to pay the same driver r500 the last day to the trainstation, and here they should have used their wits and gotten us a different driver, it's definetely not the money, but the principle, but do not let that stop you from living here. Just hang on to your wits. It might not be for everyone, but I would come back.
