It was gr8 experience staying at hotel payal. The location is perfect, staffs are very friendly and helpful. My flight was 2 hrs late but the guy was still there at the airport to pick me up. The room was ready as soon as I arrived. This area is very popular for bag packers and lot of restaurants, shopping around. Metro and Train station is very close. I think the train to Agra was less 10 mins walk from the Hostel. The travel desk at the hostel was very helpful as well.

Had a really easy and relaxed stay in New Delhi at Hotel Payal.
Rooms are cheap, simple, clean and functional and the staff are very helpful with anything you may have to ask about; including booking trains, getting to places and finding the right bars.
It's a great place for backpackers looking for a base camp in New Delhi.
Hope you enjoy!

I was recommended this place from a friend, and do not regret staying here. The rooms aren't anything special, but they are spacious and clean, with warm water (- a thing that many other places around Pahar Ganj promised but did not deliver...) Although it's on one of the main streets of the Main Bazar, the rooms block out the noise quite well. The staff are very friendly, and will go out of there way to help you out. If you need a little extra time for check, they will gladly oblige with a smile. If you are sick, they'll make a concerned effort to help you out getting medicine. I ended up staying here on two separate stays in Delhi, and would recommend this place to anyone.

We had a very bad experience in this hotel, which revealed a quite horrible management system which we would encourage you to avoid.

The hotel itself is fine - clean, and with free internet and warm showers.

The hotel offered a laundry service, which we used. However, they lost 10 items of clothing (a big problem when you're travelling for a year and so went to a lot of effort to select the right clothes to bring!) When we asked for compensation for the clothes, the manager said that the hotel wouldn't pay us a penny, as the laundry service was run by "The Boy." This "Boy" (a not-very-affectionate nickname for a fully grown man), we were then told, was not paid by the hotel, but simply kept the profit from the laundry service and tips. He is also the only member of staff who does any work in the hotel (other than asking for positive reviews on tripadvisor!) - cleaning the rooms, fixing the shower, taking our laundry, getting us into the hotel in the first place, etc. We were told to "Look him [the "Boy"] in the face. He is a very poor man. Look him in the face and tell him how much money you want for your clothes." At this we were obviously furious, and insisted that - given that we carried out the entire laundry transaction through the hotel, having asked about and paid for the laundry at the main reception - it was the hotel who should be compensating us. Eventually (after a great deal of attempted intimidation) the manager took his wallet out and handed us some money - however as we went upstairs the "Boy" was rummaging through his wallet to get the money to give back to the manager. We gave the money back to him, told the manager we had done so, and suggested it would at least seem right that he refund us the price of our hotel room (which was greatly less than the cost of replacing the clothes). He refused ("I have already written it in the book."), and we left.

For a certain type of budget traveler not wanting/needing to cut EVERY last corner Hotel Payal of Delhi really hits the sweet spot. The location is really ideal. The area; Pahar Ganj, is really set up for travelers passing though. It has everything from local & foreign friendly food, "india-wares (cloths, jewlery, etc.), travel agents, bars and ATMs. The hotel lies about halfway between the Delhi Rail station from where one catches the long distance trains going all over India and the Ram Krishna Ashram Marg metro station. The hotel is directly on the main bazar road making it a fair bit safer and easier to reach after dark then say a cheaper alternative in one of the waren like side allies of Pahar Ganj where u are forced to walk. (On the flip side those rooms would probably be a bit quieter too.) The rooms vary but for 800rp you can have a quite clean if basic room with private shower (hot) and toilet. But as always check your room carefully before taking it. The cheapest rooms here may not be everyone's cup of tea. Internet & wifi are readily available. The staff are friendly, easygoing, trustworthy and very helpful.

Room Tip: It's worth not taking the cheapest one available. In any case check the room (esp. the bathroom...
