On the whole, there is nothing really wrong with the hotel, except that it is FREEZING cold in winter - so cold, in fact, that we couldn't bear to get out of the bed, even though we were wearing all our clothes - and that it is unbelievably noisy, partly because they are doing renovation work during the day. Even without that, we found it very difficult to sleep with the noise from the street, which finally died down around midnight each night. Everything else - the stained pillows and bedsheets, the indifferent staff (with the exception of one man who I assume must have been the manager who was quite friendly and helpful), the horrible neighbourhood - I could deal with, but after 3 nights of no sleep and constant shivering, we just had to leave. In the summer - and after the renovation work has been completed - I think it will be quite a decent budget option, as it is quite clean, but for now, I would advise other travellers to avoid it.

Location is great near New Delhi station but there are so many hotels in Paharganj that I am convinced you can find a better one.

The staff are friendly enough but the place is so noisy. It is currently a building site as they add more rooms and a lift, so all day you get banging and they work until 9pm and only stop when you complain. The rooms are acceptable though you need the heater for an extra R200 as there are so many gaps in the windows and walls.

They advertised a safe bag storage when we took a trip to Amritsar but our bags were still on the floor in the same spot in the reception when we got back, now covered in dust. When we checked out they insisted we had under paid by R100 though could give no proof. We just paid as we had to hurry for our train but I am not sure we genuinely had to pay.

Not a great place for R750. Perhaps when the building works are finished it will be worth going to again.

thanks
james

I wouldn't recommend this place...perhaps it would be nicer when the renovations are done. But there is a wall missing on the side of the building with the electrical cords exposed! It is cold at night in Delhi but it is even colder if there is a huge missing wall.
Also it is too overpriced for what it is. I asked around in other places and they charge much less and were in better locations.
Location wise you'd be better off finding a hostel that is close to a Metro station as this is the most convenient way of getting around the city. It may seem like a short distance on the map to get to the Metro station but with foot traffic, auto-rickshaws, cars, etc...let's just say it is far wiser to locate yourself close to a Metro station.
Also Pahar Ganj area is not a good area for solo female travelers. It just wouldn't be wise to walk around here late at night. Nothing bad happened to me but the overall environment is not the best. You'd be better off in Connaught Place area or the Tibetan area.

I recommend it as a decent place for a cheap price in a not so pretty part of New Dehli. The room was fine overall and the bathroom was fairly nice with a hot shower. The sheets were totally stained, fortunately we had sleeping bag liners. They also arranged fair priced airport pickup for my friend I was meeting. The biggest problem was that it was incredibly loud and we had trouble sleeping.

This was definitely a very cheap stay, and you get what you pay for. Once inside, it's not so bad. The rooms are passable, the toilet is decent, and on most days you do get hot showers. The staff are pretty friendly.

The walk out of this area towards the city centre is... harrowing, to say the least. So unless you're very adventurous, or planning on taking a taxi or tuk tuk everywhere, be prepared. Although I really don't know anything that can quite prepare you for that experience. If you're planning on staying long, this is not the place.

We picked the hotel out of the lonely planet guide book, sent an email, got a quick response and turned up in our taxi from the airport. We had a look at a couple of rooms, they were flexible in letting us check out other rooms and adjusting our choice. We used room service and of course ordered several cups of chai, actually better than most places we tried in Delhi. Food was great and also good value. We left our valuables in the safety locker and they were fine. The location is central, New Delhi train station is around the corner and the metro station is a few minutes further (through the station is quickest if you know the route). The hotel has wireless internet in the reception area which we also found useful.

We'll be coming back through Delhi to fly home and will definately be coming back. We have no concerns reccommending the hotel to others looking for accomodation in central Delhi, great value, friendly and helpful staff. Nothing to complain about.

overall the room was fine. what might be helpful is about the wireless internet. it is 'available' but only if you sit in the lobby. then when checking out we were surprised that it is not free since no signs are around and the manager who put in the webkey didn't mention a fee. it is just 50 rupees a day though, but dont be surprised.

other than that pahar ganj in general is an extremely loud and active part of the city and since we were there over diwali there were 1000s of firecrackers going off at all hours. so stick to the higher floors.

also the taller older man working there was a bit shady. we booked an agra in a day tour with the delhi tourism board for 2000 rupees each, which is a pretty good price considering the taj alone is 750 for foreigners and agra fort is 300 alone and akbars tomb is another 200... and the a/c bus and guide were included in the price as well, but this guy flat out told us we were crazy to pay 2000 rupees and we should book with him. i found it a bit rude was all.

the terrace restaurant is very reasonably priced and hygenic. they cook the food only after you order it and its a great place to mingle and meet other travellers.

also there is a nice book exchange

lastly they stored our luggage for a day for free.. all in all, a good stay!
