Arrived at the Amax after a 24 hr bus journey across the county so all we wanted was a shower and somewhere to sleep. The staff would not do enough for us they were more than great full to look after our every need.

Food average and there are not many restaurants in pahar ganji area so we had to make do.

The problem here is the location, north of the main Pahar Ganj tourist area. There's really nowhere to eat around here at night except the extremely mediocre rooftop restaurant. Some tourists wouldn't want to walk around this part of town at night. There was a (non-armed) mugging in the alley while we were there -- the cops turned up to look at their CCTV -- and later a pickpocket was chased up the alley.

Sheets were somewhat clean but the blanket was filthy and there was no topsheet provided. TV in room. You will almost certainly be told that there is only one room available, and for many staying here -- picking this place out of Lonely Planet (prices creeping up since listing) -- this will be their first experience with the casual deception of the Indian tourism industry.

When the helpful manager Anil is around things seem to run better, but otherwise it's a bunch of loud young guys just hanging out -- and, again, this is par for the course in India, where many hotels are run entirely by vain and incompetent young men, with no women ever employed.

the hotel is ok: very good bathroom, bed linen with some stains, but not so dirty and good rooftop restaurant. it values the price (1000rs/night).
they also organize trips with car and driver; they are a little bit more expensive than others (approximately 38 euros/day all included, but it depends on the Km you want to do), but our driver was very good in comparison to other taxi drivers we had.
Located next to old dehli, you can take the metro or a tuk tuk to move around.
we booked via mail and we had no problems.

We stayed in Amax Inn 5 nights in March 2013. It's not a luxurious place and the surroundings are anything but pleasant, but we found the service in the hotel VERY good. so was the regular service and general attitude. but we also forgot some of our things in the lobby, including money and mobile, and got them back from hotel staff, nicely packed away.

you couldn't ask for more from a budget hotel, so much so that i decided to always stay in amax inn.But the experience i had last time was pathetic. i booked the room a week in advance confirming the date and time. when i reported sharp at the time promised, they just told me that the rooms were full and they couldn't accomodate me. i was disgusted at their attitude. this is a sheer lack of professionalism and ethics. u first confirm the booking and then when the guest arrives u don't provide them accomodation, how fair is that? does the popularity of the hotel gives it the right to dishonour guests like this. and mind u this was not the first instance, a similar thing happened couple of months ago, that time i thought may be it was a misunderstanding. the hotel management shouln't forget that it was the guests only who have made the hotel popular, and it will be guests only who would do otherwise. the management show a lot more professionalism.

Our flight to Delhi was 3 hours late – was very impressed to find that Amax Inn’s taxi still waited for us. Excellent budget rooms - comfortable beds - lots of hot water in the shower .... and very quiet !! The staff were always super helpful. Their rooftop restaurant provided a good variety, which was tasty and at an excellent price. Easy access to the rest of Delhi. They offer single/group tour packages. We hired a car and driver through Amax, of which the cost was ridiculously low – our driver made our trip more than fantastic as he made sure he was aware of what we were ‘really’ interested in and continually suggested new places to visit – super helpful, patient and kind. His name was Dinesh and can be reached using Amax website or at bahadursingh1962@yahoo.com. Normally I don’t hire car and driver, but in India for us, this was far better than a train/bus as time was limited and the train/bus doesn’t stop when I want it to nor does it advise me of the fabulous sites and places to stop of which I have no idea, being that I am a tourist. I would always refer tourists of all ages to stay here.

Stayed only one night in this hotel, its a little basic, but good value for the low price we paid.
Hotel is conveniently situated in the heart of Pahaj Ganj so there are a number of eateries and shops nearby, and its easy to pick up transport. New Delhi railway station is very close.
Rooms a little dark and noisy on the lower floors and water only hot at certain times of day.
Strong free wifi available in the lobby but not in the rooms.
Small rooftop restaurant with a varied menu.
Staff were really helpful about helping us find places and book taxis etc.

Room Tip: rooms on the higher floors are probably quieter than the slightly noisy ones below
