Away from the hustle and bustle of Old Delhi, this is a great alternative for backpackers. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The guesthouse is clean, with a friendly atmosphere, great value for money and extremely popular so book ahead. However, those on a tight budget should opt for a room on the 3rd or 4th floor (no lift); because the price decreases dramatically the higher you go up. You dont need AC, they have a water air-cooler in every room. We paid about 400 Rs for a double on the 3rd floor. Dont bother with an airport pick-up, its really pricey and you can get there for half the cost using pre-paid taxi at the airport. The driver we had on the pick-up was awful. Give the restaurant a big MISS - the food was pretty disappointing there are some better places not far from the guesthouse and for better value. The Tibetan colony is a wonderful location to relax and take a break from CRAZY Delhi; no hassles except for a few beggars here and there and you can visit the temple, do a bit of shopping and get to know the locals. For those concerned about the distance shouldnt worry, its really easy to get into Delhi using the Metro which isn't very far. Take a 10 mins ride on a rickshaw, 15-20 Rs, to Vidhan Sabha which is literally round the corner or just walk there. Its take about 15 mins to go to New Delhi station, missing all the traffic (and pollution) on the surface saves you time. Returning to the hotel is even easier - there are plenty of rickshaws outside the station. Please watch out for the scam about not having change....they NEVER do. Carry plenty of small change and tell drivers to wait while you look for change if you dont have any - we did this a couple of times and as they are not keen to wait, end up giving you the change anyway. And please book all train tickets at the international tourist bureau in New Delhi station before leaving Delhi, thats if you have a confirmed itinerary. Some of these travel agents make huge profits selling you an overpriced ticket. It happened to us several times. The only downside is the mosquitoes - bring a a net....I wished I did. And most importantly......enjoy your stay!
