We really enjoyed our stay at the Colonel's retreat. It was so peaceful in a residential in that slightly crazy city... Our room was large and comfortable, breakfast was delicious (especially the banana bread!): the staff was welcoming and helpful, we enjoyed the family style breakfast, with a chance to meet people from everywhere else in the world...
Another pleasure was the neighborhood with its calm streets, a chance to take a walk and chat with local residents walking their pooches... Indians are so friendly and pleasant in general... We loved the whole experience.
One tiny negative aspect: the pillows were too narrow and we kept hitting our heads on the bedboard... we just learned to be careful!

Located in a quiet but fairly central area, it is functional without being exceptional. The best points are access to internet on each floor in a pleasant area which also contains a lounge and eating area. There is a nice roof terrace for breakfast as well. Our shower/bath leaked onto the floor which was unfortunate. Very clean, breakfast ok but had a habit of arriving in the wrong order, eggs ready before milk for cereal arrived etc, not helped by the staff's limited English.
10 minute walk to the Defence Colony market where there are a variety of good restaurants to eat in the evening. Would i stay there again..yes.

Room Tip: There is a lift and all floors have identical facilities, no room appears any better than the other...

What a wonderful place to end a month travelling in NW India, a real home-from-home. This boutique B&B in Defence Colony is beautifully appointed, but totally unstuffy with no airs and graces. We arrived not long before midnight, but were immediately made welcome with Masala Chai and home-made banana bread. A big, comfortable bed swallowed us up after a hot shower.

The room tariff includes accommodation, breakfast, tea & coffee (not only made yourself in your room, but also made for you to sup in the lounge area), mineral water, air-conditioning, and - are you listening the big chain hotels in India - FREE Internet and WiFi!

The staff is friendly and attentive, but not in your face and the owner makes it her business to meet you at breakfast. There is plenty of advice about using the Metro (very conveniently situated), places to visit, how to get to these and their entry costs. Less than 10 minutes from Defence Colony market with a myriad places to eat, Colonel's Retreat also advises on their favourite eateries although providing tasty meals on the rooftop if you order a couple of hours ahead.

This is a haven of tasteful, modern, comfortable tranquility within easy reach of Delhi's top attractions. We'd recommend Colonel's Retreat unreservedly and will make sure we stay there whenever we visit Delhi again!

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet, roomy and with comfortable beds.

It's a great place, and the staff was very helpful. We stayed here on three separate occasions on our way in and out of Delhi.

Its easy, organized, smooth, relaxing, clean and hassle free. The staff is fantastic and the hotel was able to organize pick ups and drop offs at the airport at all hours -- even though our flight was delayed by 3 hours the driver was still there waiting for us at 4 am.

Well worth it, and you'll get great advice for getting around Delhi.

Room Tip: Try and get one that is away from the staircase as the elevator can make noise at night -- but nothi...

We arrived in Delhi from Chicago at 1:30AM and were happy to get some rest at this family owned heritage hotel. There are only 6 rooms with nice common areas on each of the 3 floors. The rooms were clean with lots of hot water and good showers. We only ate breakfast at the hotel and the food was good. The hotel is located on a quiet residential street where you can go for a stroll, or check out the fruit/vegetables being sold by a friendly farmer who brings his produce in daily. It is an excellent location and close to sights and restaurants without having to venture too far into the city. We especially liked this after a long day of sight seeing. The staff are polite, trustworthy, and accommodating. We stayed here again at the end of our tour. The morning of our flight, we needed to leave for the airport at 5:00AM. The staff gave boxed breakfasts to each of us thoughtfully prepared with passing through security in mind. Nice touch and much appreciated.

The Colonel's Retreat in the Defence Colony is Delhi is like a wonderful refuge from the chaos of that great city. Located in an exclusive residential neighborhood, it really does seem like a refuge. The staff is very courteous and helpful, and happily arrange everything from airport pickup in the middle of the night to simple, vegetarian meals served in the room for someone like me (I started a 40-day silent retreat while I was staying there). The oprice is quite reasonable for Delhi, and everyone who works there seems to be interested in making your stay in India as pleasant as possible. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Soi far as I know, they are all good.

Very nice place to stay, with a beautiful rooftop for meals, including complimentary breakfast and not far from the metro or other access to downtown sites not far away. I will stay here again when I am in India. They also have a place near the airport.
