“Desoto Caverns”
Reviewed January 5, 2013

We had an ok time. It was quite expensive compared to other caverns we have visited. The guide really did not know many facts about the cave. The cave is basically one huge room and the light show was very disappointing. It is based on religion but that was not an issue for us it was just not impressive. We did not do any of the other activities such as the fence maze etc. So I cannot comment on those.

Thank you for taking your valuable time in giving us feedback regarding your visit to our park through TripAdvisor. It's true our Cavern tour and light show are more expensive than caves owned by the State of Alabama or the Federal Government. Our park is privately owned and therefore does not receive tax dollars to help underwrite our operating expenses, thus the added admission charge.

Thank you again for your comments.

“Fix it up”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

The caverns were nice, large and impressive. However, I am concerned on how it seems to be ran overall. The teenage workers seemed to not care for anyone at all, the girls in the gift shop stayed seated and on their phones all day, and the employee who gave me my tour seemed uninformed and uninterested. We brought our whole family, and the price for us all was through the roof! It was way too expensive for a cavern and awful attractions. All of the attractions were beaten up, run down, and looked like they could fall apart at any second. I would recommend tearing it down and starting over anew.

Thank you for taking time to offer your perceptions regarding your recent visit to our facility. All feedback is valuable in helping us achieve our goal of superior customer service. Although, it seems we have fallen well short of our goals during your visit.

I want to first apologize for the unprofessional way our gift shop staff conducted themselves. Their behavior was disappointing and counter to our company training and policy.

Your visit coincided with our annual refurbishment of our outside attractions, which might explain the mess you encountered. This is an annual event which takes place during our slow season. We have several construction projects going on in the park. We are in the process of adding new attractions, re-roofing, re-painting, and conducting several other refurbishment projects. I apologize for the mess.

I'm glad you enjoyed our Cavern, it's a very special place. I would like to invite you and your party back to the park as my guest in the late spring or summer, when our water attractions are open, the flowers are in full bloom, and all construction projects are complete. I assure you the park will look totally different. In 2012, 97% of our visitors rated our park's cleanliness and attractiveness as Good to Great.

Thank you again for your comments. Your insights are very helpful.

“DESoto Caverns Family Fun Park”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

Desoto Caverns is located in central Alabama. It is an amazing feature of nature. You can go through the caverns on a guided trip. One of the features in the cavern is a room larger than a football field. Our guide told us they rent the room out to organizations for camp-outs. The temperature is always the same in the caverns. Check with the Park about these camp-outs. Once or twice a year they have an Indian celebration at the park. It is very interesting and children will love it. It worth the time to visit these caverns.

Thank you for taking time in going to TripAdvisor to write a very kind review of your experience at Desoto Caverns Family Fun Park. I am pleased you enjoyed your time with us and felt compelled to recommend us to potential visitors. We will continue to strive to delight our visitors and welcome your comments.

As a point of clarification, for 35 years we hosted Native American festivals at our park, however due to many factors we chose to discontinue this tradition in 2007. We do offer special events throughout the year like the Oztober Event, where we had actors performing scenes from the book The Wizard of OZ, both above and below ground, complete with the yellow brick road.

Thank you again for visiting Desoto Caverns Family Fun Park.

“Fun For All”
Reviewed December 15, 2012

The Cavern itself is really pretty but the history of and around the Cavern is truly fascinating! Plus, the owners ( its privately owned) have added a number of activities for kids that are fun and some that are educational AND fun. I've taken my grandchildren several times and they always want to go back. Plus, they have an excellent campground.

“Beautiful nature spoiled by the owners religious agenda”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

The rock formations are astounding but they insist on showing a movie (inside the cave) pushing a religious point of view. How horrible!

I appreciate you taking time to offer us feedback concerning your experience at Desoto Caverns Family Fun Park through TripAdvisor. I'm glad you were impressed with our Cavern and the multitude of unique formations found within its walls.

I assume the "movie" that offended you was our 7 minute Christmas Light and Water show we include with our Cavern Tour during November and December. Our intention is not to offend anyone with our Christmas Light Show but rather to celebrate the birth of Christ, which is our purpose for celebrating Christmas each year. Desoto Caverns Family Fun Park holds to the traditional values of our founding fathers with the mission of creating a fun environment for families to enjoy.

We value your opinion and trust you will consider visiting our park again in the future.
