Four nights of the kindest, most engaging hospitality, combined with great food and brilliant company. Casa Cayuco is a beautiful place to stay- beginning with Dave picking us up from Bocas town and pointing out highlights of the trip- through to Sue's brilliant meals. We stayed in Pelicano, which was ideal- comfy bed, nice bathroom, great view. Meals were top notch, kudos to Sue for her passion in providing fresh, gourmet meals day in day out. Excursions were expertly led by Lloyd, a waterman, teacher and great bloke. Suzanne, Rosie, bella and Angus all combine to make Casa Cayoco a definite Panama highlight.

This place is beautiful, eco friendly, and there is plenty to do. We snorkled extensively, kayaked, took a tour of the local village and met the local people, hiked, and hung out on the beach. We even saw sloths in a tree next to the dock the moment we arrived. But what is even more incredible than the actual accommodations and location is how incredibly well run this place is.

Lloyd and Sue are two of the nicest people I've met. If you want to go kayaking, Lloyd will have you set up and ready to go with anything you need no matter what he's doing. There will literally be a kayak set up and he'll be showing you snorkels and goggles to take and where you can see the best sea life as soon as you step foot on the beach.

If you want to go on one of the excursions they offer, Sue will have lunch and beers (if you desire) packed and ready to go with a smile as soon as you get up to head out that morning. She also cooks dinner for the guests and everything she made was wonderful. In addition to being great hosts, they are interesting and friendly people generally and make the entire experience feel more like you are visiting friends than guests at a hotel.

But to truly show how above and beyond they go for their guests, I'll relay a quick anecdote. Sue provides a mango hot sauce from the main island with some meals and I really enjoyed it (and they sell you the bottles right there if you want one for $5). I gladly took one home with me and slipped through customs with it. Well, when I got back a roommate I had at the time dumped it down the sink thinking it was old. I was pretty heartbroken considering it is homemade on the island and absolutely delicious. Flash forward to xmas time and my girlfriend emailed Sue on a whim to see if they could ship more to the US. They couldn't, but they offered to bring some over when they made a personal trip and mailed it to her before xmas for me. They refused to even take any payment for the shipping or the salsa.

We only met them for a few days and months later they were willing to haul a bottle of salsa to the US and mail it to us free of charge, just because they thought it was a nice thing to do. If those sound like people you want to trust your vacation with, then you should go here. Seriously, I can't imagine you could have a bad time at this place.

We travelled to Panama as part of a 30th birthday celebration and we spent ages looking for the best places to stay. When we came across Casa Cayuco we were sure we'd found what we were looking for. Situated on the beautiful island of Bastimentos and within a few hours drive of our next destination, Costa Rica, we were sold from the get go. Nothing could have prepared us for the amazing trip we were about to have.
We were met upon arrival at the airport by new owner Dave , which was a pleasant surprise, as we thought that we would have to spend the afternoon waiting in the town. Fortunately, Dave was there to rescue us and escorted us by boat to Casa Cayuco. When we first arrived at Casa Cayuco, we couldn't believe our luck. None of the pictures do it any justice, it truly is a little slice of heaven on earth. Everybody there was super welcoming and we spent most of our first day exploring the surrounding area whilst pinching ourselves to make sure we weren't dreaming,
During our stay, we did a number of the excursions on offer, including snorkelling/dolphin spotting and kayaking. Each excursion was well planned, and there was never a moment where we didn't have something to do.
The cabin was beautifully designed, right by the beach and it was wonderful to wake up to the sound of the ocean each morning. Dave and Suzanne were the most awesome hosts and their vibrant energy made our stay that bit more special. They were always on hand with tips, jokes and drinks. We would highly recommend Casa Cayuco to anybody looking for a wonderful experience in Panama. It was by far the best accommodation we had during our trip.

Casa Cayuco was an oasis and we are so glad that we made the choice to stay here!

Sue and Lloyd are the perfect hosts and make you feel comfortable whether you want to spend the day in the hammock or go on one of the many offered excursions. Sue's cooking is extraordinary and we talked about it for the rest of our trip (my mouth waters just thinking about it!).

I appreciated that they had all of the activities available that they listed (not always the case) and we had a blast taking out the kayaks, paddle boards, and sail boat.

It's true that if you're looking for a typical hotel room with air conditioning with thirty minute showers and a night club across the street, this probably isn't the place for you. However, if your kind of vacation involves watching thunder storms roll in from a hammock on the dock, family style meals with local ingredients, and genuine service, I don't think you could do better than Casa Cayuco (but to be fair we didn't stay at any other similar accommodations).

One word of advice, bring lots of bug spray. The bugs aren't oppressive but some of us got more bitten up than others and better to be safe than itchy!

When we were there, Sue and Lloyd were in the process of training new owners (Dave and Susannah) so they won't be there much longer. And while we didn't spend as much time with them, they certainly seemed very friendly eager to keep up the Casa Cayuco expectations.

We have never been to the Caribbean before and Casa Cayuco is everything we were hoping for when it comes to a relaxed island experience. It is hard to say what we liked best: the cabin with beach view; the tranquil beach with just a few locals walking by; snorkelling off the beach or just a short kayak ride away; the amazingly tasty, healthy and creative menus served every day; a great little reef break just 15 minutes by boat that delivered 2 amazing surfs with just myself and the captain/manager Lloyd. The managers Sue and Lloyd including their lovely kids Bella and Angus (2 tame playful bulldogs, that are very well behaved and know that they have to be upstairs while guests are having meals downstairs) are very hospitable and make sure that your stay will be one remembered for a long time. This is a great place for everyone who wants to escape reality for a short while and completely relax; with countless options to add a bit of adventure via hiking trips around the island, surfing, snorkelling, visiting neighbouring islands, checking out wildlife etc. And on our last day Sue and Lloyd surprised us with a candlelight dinner for our honeymoon on the pier right above the water. Unforgettable! It's a truly unique experience and we hope that you will experience the same. Rob and Sam

I was looking for the nearest far away place for us to enjoy beach and sloth (both the critter and the lifestyle). Due to a slightly disrupted travel plan that caused my wife and I to show up late, bedraggled and without baggage we were, let's say, grumpy.
Not only did Sue & Loyd (your hosts) bend over backwards to make us feel welcome and loan/give us some required basics while we tried to find our own bags; the other guests showered us with assistance as well. Add to that some of the most beautiful beaches and waters we've seen. And some of the most Master Chef meals and table conversation with guests who are way more awesome than we deserved. And add snorkeling that you won't get anywhere east and/or west of Indonesia. And Boca Town was kinda cool too.
So, go already. Sue will treat you and Loyd will teach you and care for you.

My wife and I stayed at two other places while in Bocas Del Toro on our honeymoon and we both wish that we would have spent all of our time at Casa Cayuco. There's no need to spend time messing around with seeing other parts of Bocas if what you want is an exotic secluded experience where you have access to water toys whenever you'd like, great walking trails, friendly animals and wonderful hosts just go straight to Casa Cayuco.
