My friends and I had a slight change in accommodation and had to find a place in a hurry. Our luck could not have been better to have found the red frog bungalows. A well run, clean and friendly place situated in a pristine jungle. Scott is a fantastic chef, a gracious host and an excellent surfer/guide. Instead of surfing with the sheep we surfed great waves all to ourselves. Thank you to the entire staff at the bungalows for saving our surf trip.
Will be back for sure.

While he may not (yet) be mayor of Bocas del Toro, there could be no better advocate for this islands-paradise and its peoples than Scott Balogh. Coming from our non-surfer, desert-rat perspective, Scott's Red Frog Bungalows provided solace for the soul with gastronomical delights, crystal-clear Caribbean beach waters, and exquisite rainforest gardens -- all reflections of the owner's generous and playful spirit. Set foot where angels tread on this magical, mysterious stairway to heaven -- Red Frog Bungalows.

Thanks to Scott and his crew for a great 5 days getting away from it all. As a family, my wife and our 6 year old like a little adventure. In addition, the wife needs a break from cooking as well. Momma, Scott, and Mikey provided meals of fresh fish, vegetables, and fruit every day. All with their own Island flair. By far, the best food on Bastimentos.
Scott and his staff know the area very well and can recommend things to do to meet your adventurous needs or not....laying on Red Frog and relaxing. The beach was amazing. Sand bottom great for wading, swimming, body surfing and board surfing.
We've traveled a lot but have never had the opportunity to see so many animals in their natural environment......bats, frogs, sloths, turtles, lizards, monkeys and the list goes on.
And finally, we really appreciated how Scott and his team took care of their environment, both from a nature standpoint and the support and participation in their local community.
It may take a little longer to get to Bocas (and the Red Frog Bungalows), but it was well worth it.

Thank you Scott, Maiky, Mama, Tuluch and Chato for the best vacation of our lives! My wife and 2 teenage sons just spent one week at Red Frog Bungalows. What an incredible vacation we had! Red Frog Beach is stunning and only steps from the bungalows. On the beach Scott has built 2 thatch palapas with sun lounge chairs and hammocks. Most of our afternoons were spent surfing, swimming and swinging in the cool Carribbean breezes. It was so relaxing we never wanted to leave. Scott has boogie boards, stand up paddle boards, surfboards and volleyball to keep everyone busy. The food was a medley of fish every night. We had fresh yellowtail snapper Scotts staff caught and fresh Dorado and YellowFin Tuna we caught on one of our fishing trips. We ate like royalty every night. Our favorite meal was the fresh sesame seared ahi with coconut rice. Mama, our cook for breakfast and lunch, keep us fat with Panamanian dishes. One of the most enjoyable parts of the trip was that we immediately felt like family. All of the staff is Panamanian and very attentive. They took us into Bastimentos town and introduced us to their families, we sipped Panamanian rum and listened to Reggae, and just took it all in. They treated us like family from the time we arrived to the time we left. We do not get to experience this in California.
The bungalows Scott has created were spacious, clean, and very unique. Our favorite part of the bungalow was the outdoor shower. It was amazing to be showering and have tropical birds flying overhead. The entire unit was powered by solar and very efficient. They beds were comfortable, clean, and surprisingly really no insects. Scott mentioned to us that it was because of the salt sea breeze. I guess he was right.
This was exactly the vacation we were looking for and we would recommend this to anyone. Thank you to everyone at Red Frog Bungalows....we will be back next year.

Room Tip: Book quickly, they only take 10 people at a time!!

4 friends and I recently had the chance to spend 5 days with Scott and the crew. Was an excellent experience that I won't ever forget. The food, lodging, activities and ambiance far exceeded our expectations. I only wish we were able to catch a few fish on our deep sea trip.

5 stars. I hope to return in the near future.

Let me begin by saying THANK YOU to Scott, Maiky, Mama, Taluch, Chato and the rest of the amazing staff at Red Frog...you have all been wonderful and we will never forget you. Secondly, to those of you who came here expecting to be pampered like you're staying at the presidential suite of the Ritz Carlton, you clearly didn't do your research and should take your pretentious self elsewhere. Red Frog is for laid-back, fun-loving adventurous people who embrace nature, the local culture, and adore the breathtaking beauty of the jungle and the beach. Oh, and the beach is not far, so don't let previous reviews mislead you...it's a mere 2-minute walk along a nice path. If I had to describe Red Frog in one word if would be "paradise"; if I could use as many words as I like I would say it's tropical serenity and beauty at its finest. There's a sense of calm that overtakes you the minute you arrive; the beauty surrounding you is unparalleled. The second you meet Scott and Maiky and see how welcoming and gracious they are, you feel at home. Anything we may have needed was taken care of immediately, and the staff really bends over backwards to ensure that you're enjoying your stay. The bungalows are FABULOUS and although it takes a night or two to get used to the complete darkness of night and the sounds of the jungle, by day 3 we slept like babies and dreaded ever having to leave...comfortable bed, protected from insects by properly placed netting, and cleaned daily. The meals were spectacular, the beverages cold and abundant, and the company entertaining. If you surf, there's no reason to stay anywhere else... Taluch is your own personal surf guide and took us to breaks every day. One day we decided to go snorkeling (best snorkeling ever by the way!) and Chato was our guide for that excursion. Where else can you go on excursions and be the only couple there along with your very own guide? Staying at Red Frog and participating in activities didn't feel touristy (because who wants that)...it felt as though we were at home. Oh, and I haven't mentioned the beach, have I? There's really no need to because Red Frog Beach is SPECTACULAR. Takes Caribbean to a whole other level. If you're looking to relax, surf, embrace nature and culture, and meet wonderful people who will become lifelong friends then stop looking around already and book your bungalow now!

Last year I had the pleasure of meeting Scott, Mikey and his staff while on an all girls surf trip. We all fell in love with Red Frog. As soon as I returned to Canada I booked this year, but with a different spin...a mothers and sons surfing trip.

So the group of us, Three 40 something Mom's with their 14 to 17 year old sons headed out to Red Frog Bungalows. We arrived March 8, 2012 and left March 14, 2012. I had booked more time than last year and it still wasn't enough! Each day we all wish we were back. We look at the photos and reminisce about all the fun we had.

Scott 's staff is incredible. Thank you so much, Scott, Mikey and Momma for cooking us incredible meals. (and for sharing a few secret recipes!) Who would think a 17 year old boy from Canada would fall in love with Sesame encrusted Ahi Tuna when his favourite hang out back home is McDonalds! Priceless!!!!

This vacation was not just a place to go in the sun. Scott, Mikey, Mamma, Chato, Justin, TO and the other staff have become family. They cater to your every need and arrange each activity you choose to do on any particular day.

Our main activity was surfing and as they say, "the surf was UP!" Infact, I chickened out on many waves but with the very helpful instructions from TO and Justin managed to catch some good ones. Not bad for a Mom from Canada! My son's goal was to go from a long board to a short board which he accomplished easily, again with all the help from Scott, TO and Justin. Scott 's selection of boards is excellent and he always had just what we needed.

As a change from surfing we all decided to experience the zip line on Bastimentos. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The course was extremely professionally constructed and had a ropes course you could do as well. That part was challenging for the Moms! Our sons took great joy in laughing at us as we trembled and fumbled our way through.

The area of islands in the Bocas de Toro region is only accessible by water. It was fun to go into a few local bars in Bastimentos or onto Bocas for more night life. We loved the people we met and made many new friends. That's just the way this place is!

It is difficult to describe the incredible sense of peace you get while at Red Frog Bungalows. It is not just because of the incredible rain forest you are staying in that is steps from the beach. It is not just because of the wild life that surrounds you.....red frogs, gekos, iguanas, white face monkeys, parrots, dolphins, sea rays.......it has to do with the people who take care of you.

I highly recommend Red Frog Bunglows. Thanks again Scott et al for a truly memorable trip. We will be back!
