This hotel was a dream! We were 2 girls traveling not knowing anything about Bocas before we arrived and luckily found Palma Royale. The hotel was exactly what we were looking for... clean, beautiful, great bathroom, comfortable bed, great location, affordable and safe. Coming home after a few drinks and seeing a security guard was so nice, especially for 2 girls traveling alone. The website doesn't lie, the pictures are exactly what it looks like.

During our stay, our home away from home was the Under the Palm bar and restaurant, which is on the ground floor of the hotel. The minute we arrived we were greeted with open arms by the Under the Palm staff, the delicious drinks and good food. Everyone gave us great tips and advice, basically helped us plan our entire trip.

We stayed 9 nights and left with new friends, tons of memories, very relaxed and happy chicas! We have only been back for a few days and are already planning our next trip back. Of course, the Palma Royale will be our hotel!

We traveled to Panama to visit our family on Bocas. Upon our arrival, the hotel we were scheduled to stay in happened to be two seperate rooms. We were very concerned as we have twin daughters and did not want to be seperated. So, we started walking and looking for other accomadations. We looked at 9 other hotels before we happened upon Palma Royale. The staff was friendly and excited to have us there. They gave us a wonderful tour of the hotel and it was love at first sight. We got a beautiful room with two comfortable beds and we were home. We stayed 8 days and were treated as though we lived there. The staff is so friendly. The hotel is crystal clean. It really feels safe and inviting. We miss Melissa and Ava and send our love and gratitude to everyone that was so wonderful and kind to us while staying there. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. We will see you again next year!! Besos!

We were staying in Bocas at a different recommended hotel and were a bit disappointed with the value we were getting for a more high end option, plus found the mosquitoes on the smaller island of Caranero to be unbearable. Walking past this hotel we felt that it was most likely out of our price range, but worth a shot anyway. What we found was an incredibly helpful staff, a beautiful spacious room and an overall amazing experience for great value. If cash is tight, talk to the front desk, because they are just starting out, they were willing to make some deals on rooms. This may not last forever so better to take advantage now. The hotel is right in the middle of Bocas town, which may be the only setback, as having a hotel on the water is quite an experience, especially on the other islands in Bocas. But the views from the upper levels were great. Overall we had an amazing experience well worth the weekend splurge, Which ultimately was still very competitively priced for such a high quality place.

Our family spent 5 nights at this hotel and absolutely loved it. The rooms are wonderfully designed and the beds are extremely comfortable. Our room had a fabulous sitting area and excellent air conditioning. The bathrooms are modern and have large hot showers. The owners are wonderful and extremely helpful with all needs. The staff is friendly, professional and customer focused. We had delicious breakfast each morning, and loved the view from the rooms and the balcony. We highly recommend this hotel!

My friend and I were looking to celebrate his birthday in a nice hotel. We happened upon Palma Royale while walking around the island. What a beautiful hotel! AND, we were given a free upgrade when the staff found out it was my friend's birthday. The shower was absolutely beautiful and the linens were luxurious. I would definitely stay there again. The only drawback is that it's not located near the beach.

We recently visited Bocas and were planning on spending our week in a rented personal house on the island across the way from Bocas Town, but the house we had rented was burglarized, so we had to find new lodging in a hurry. We searched up and down Bocas Town for a place that could handle the 4 of us (many have doubles or triples, but quads were rare) and found that Palma Royale not only had a beautiful room, but that room was at an incredibly reasonable rate.

The rooms have a nice open feel, are cleaned daily, and each has at least a small balcony where you can gaze out to the ocean. Ice-cold Air Conditioning (crucial in the sometimes muggy summer days we experienced), a mini-fridge, and satellite TV were added perks. The staff were really friendly and helpful (Sabino - one of the main security guards who is posted overnight, was particularly awesome) and there's a cute little restaurant downstairs with reasonably priced good food. The only, only, only downsides I could think of are that the TV is at a weird angle that is a little uncomfortable to watch, the wireless in the room was a little slow (but, hey - they had wireless!), and the beds are a little hard. You know the place is pretty great if the only complaints involve the angle of the satellite flatscreen TV, right?

Anyway - definitely recommend this place and wish them the best of luck (they told us that they had just opened recently!)

I could stop right there. This hotel is simply gorgeous. The owners and builder obviously care about quality and ambiance. They used the most beautiful travertine, gorgeous furniture, the location (in town) is tops. Moved here from the Playa Tortuga, and the two couldn't be more different. Everything there is cheap and plastic-y... Everything here is first rate. Only drawback is that it doesn't have a beach. It does, however, have sweeping views of the ocean across the street. So I'll take the Palma Royale over the Tortuga any day.

Prices, I think, are really reasonable, especially for so much space and luxury. Each room (and I looked at five before choosing) is huge. Most are more like one- or two-bedroom apartments. The penthouse, if you can swing it and if you need the space, will make you want to stay forever. I didn't need that much space, so I stayed one floor down, in a spacious one-bedroom "apartment" which had a very well equipped kitchen and made me feel at home -- only better, because my apartment doesn't have a two-sided balcony overlooking the sea.

First floor bar is populated by American expats and serves tasty and inexpensive drinks. A pina colada for $3.50?? A beer and a glass of wine for $4 total? Not where I'm from.

Negatives: I was bitten multiple times by some insect during the night; rooms could use brighter lights and more lamps; bedside tables need a clock radio (yes, some of us come to paradise for work and have to keep track of time).

In short, if you're looking for beauty and culture, rather than just roasting yourself on a beach, check into the Palma Royale. I was ready to write off Bocas del Toro until I stayed here.
