I had a great stay there last summer. To my horror though I left my wedding ring in the safety deposite box in my room and didn't realize it till I had gotten home to the states. (Yes I know I'm an idiot) I quickly called the hotel and found out they were still there. Marta, the owner, held onto the ring for me for an entire year while we tried to figure out how to mail the ring without it getting stuck in customs. We finally got the ring back last month safe and sound. I am amazed by her patience and honesty. She could have easily said that she could not find the ring and could have sold it for a good amount of money. If you go, stay at her hotel! You will be treated well and you can sleep soundly knowing you and your stuff is in good hands.

I actually did not stay here but I wanted to share my incredible experience I had with Marta, owner of the Calipso. I lost my passport one a typical liberating night dancing out in Bocas only to notice this crisis at 4 AM as I was getting out of swimming in the ocean at a bar.

As one can imagine this onsets a state of panic, dread, and crisis for an American traveler that was visiting Bocas, Panama as a one stop crossover from my trip to Costa Rica. I had no choice but to wait until the morning when I could try to begin navigate the standard procedures for my idiot move and figure out how to get back to Costa Rica for my departure flight. I went all over town to locate internet cafes only to find none of them open.

This is where Marta saved me from my distressing situation and offered her computers. She offered priceless advice and information about who to contact, the most likely outcome, and comfort in her concern. She refused to accept payment for her help and internet.

It turns out I had my passport but Marta's kind outreach really touched me. I came back to thank her over the next couple days and noticed that the the place was clean and comfortable and her guest were relaxed. She really extends her Spanish hospitality and this is a safe, warm place. I highly recommend Calipso just on the merit of the company of good people that are super helpful. I found Marta laughing with her guest and enjoying the pure life.

I have seen A LOT of hostels in my time but it is rare to see a hostel with REALLY nice and CLEAN tiled bathrooms. This hostel is located directly in the middle of the action of Bocas del Toro. Marta, the owner, is from Spain and she truly cares about the condition of her hostel. They do of course have AC, Cable, and Internet.

I had the unfortunate experience of going to the hospital while I was staying in Bocas, but the next morning after waking up the workers were all curious what happened and were very concerned if I was okay. The woman who works the desk (I forgot her name, sorry!) is one of the nicest people I met in Panama. She saw my wounds and told me if I needed anything to come to her first and even offered me free internet if I needed it (which is only .50/hour anyways). She is very kind & helpful, and her children that hang around the hostel are extremely friendly & helpful.

The hostel is VERY clean in comparison to others, and most (if not ALL) the rooms have an air conditioning unit... which is VERY nice and convenient. I would recommend this hostel to anyone and everyone, it is clean, well designed, A/C, and is right across the street from the park & several bars and restaurants. Perfect* location.

Next time I go to Bocas I will be sure to visit my friends at Calipso and catch the FC Barcelona game!

I was referred to this place by the manager of Kaya's place in Puerto Viejo. I just walked in, asked if they had a private room, and they gave me very good service. The owner is Italian. A very nice woman who runs this establishment well. It is a hostel, as they have dorm rooms which are busy with young travellors. My private room with bathroom was clean, nice, bug-free, with hot water and free internet, free coffee, and with a shared kitchen. It is right on the main street of town. I was happy to stay here, and will return some day.
