Cabanas Turisticas Estefany
Reviewed February 15, 2014

We were really disappointed from this so called hostel: 60 $ a night for a private room, no electricity (only 3 hours a day), 5 $ each towel (!!!), 5 $ p.p. for breakfast. Meals (pasta) at night 10 - 12 $.

The italian couple was nice, but seems to try maximising profits due to the exclusive location (no other hotel in this area). We did not stay but moved back to Bocas. It's a lot wothier to stay there and catch a bus in the morning to playa estrella.

Our forecast: If they don't lower prices, they won't succeed. Even with fake-ratings as my four or five antecessors...

So relaxing, beautiful and secluded. Very close to the Playa de Estrellas where you can see lots and lots of huge red sea stars - a humbling experience! The Italian staff is super friendly and very helpful!!!! It has a very familiar and genuine atmosphere. We loved it! Thank you for everything guys!!! Wishing you good luck for the future! I went to Cabanas Estefany during my last trip in Panama!!I had the most relaxing holiday ever!!! You wake up in the morning and the first thing you hear is the sound of the sea. When you go to the reception you find a very friendly staff (Elena, Daniele, Marta, Nick and "La mamma")ready to suggest you the best things to do (fantastic excursions, amazing jungle and coastal walks)! 10 minutes far from the cabanas you find the Playa Estrella where you can easily find the Sea stars!! The food was always fresh, healthy and very italian! I would strongly recomend to all my friends!!

A perfect place for a relaxing holiday. Cozy, essential and peaceful, out of the crowd. The owners, Elena and Danielle are special persons, smiling and helpful. You can enjoy authentic italian food while swinging on a hommock under your private palm. A real carribean atmosphere, I can guarantee!!!

I was traveling alone, and my gole was just to find THE place to think and rehab from stress. I spent one week at the Cabanas Estefany and I keep on thinking was the most chilled week I've ever had in all my life.

The spot is AWESOME ! You're staying at 5 steps to the sea (super-clean sea, not as it's in Bocas town), out from every caos/noises of the main town, with really nice beaches all around you: like Playa Estrella which is really beautiful with all his seastars, but even if you wake up and don't want to walk 15 min, you can just walk 30 meters on the right (watching the sea) and you have an intimate beach, normally with nobody in, with no rocks and perfect for laying down in the water and appreciate the weather or having a long walk by.

Then you met Daniel and Elena which are every time there smiling ready for getting you the right solution, and making you comfortable, I felt like at home.
Even the food was great: there's every time a nice "pure Italian taste" pasta at the Cabanas' restaurant, or if you want to have the mythical caribbean fried-fish dish (a bit more expensive but really tasty, but just during the day because they close at 8pm) you can go either to the restaurant at the end of the road(Yarisnori) or choosing one chiringuito at Playa Estrella.
By the way they have dinners too at the Cabanas' restaurant, normally with fresh fish (I've tried twice and all was really delicious and genuine).

Surly It's a bit isolated, on the other side of the "Isla" from Bocas town, (20 min 15$ run by taxy, 30+ min 2$ run by shuttle-bus), but this is the trick of the place: It's just you, a jungle on the backyard, the sand on the front and the sound of the ocean. Than if you want to party hard just go to town!
So obviously you have to take in count you're a bit in an adventure, so there may be issues like: no hot water, electricity running just from 6pm to midnight, wifi service discontinued during the day if there is no sun (wifi works with solar panels during the day); personally I've found this limitations as a key to step out from what was my normal routine, and has worked really fine!

Can't belive I'm already home, can't wait to pass by another time.:D

Room Tip: Ask for the Cabana solution if you're like 5-8 people, for sure Daniel will do you a nice fair p...

Cabanas estefany
Beautiful place, between jungle and white sand beach. The hostel is isolated and very quiet. 10 minutes walk to the starfish beach. Thanks to an efficient bus service, it' easy to reach Boca del Torro for shopping and party!
The cabanas are very cosy and Elena & Daniele, the italian owners, sweet and kind. They also offer a continental breakfast, easy lunch and dinner, italian style, of course!

Our stay here was more like camping than staying in a hostel. This is totally cool if that's what you're after. But you should know going in that there may or may not be water on a given day (forget about hot water), the toilets and showers are all open-air, and electricity is only turned on from 7 pm - midnight (assuming the generator isn't on the fritz). That last one is actually a pretty big deal because you can't charge a phone/camera overnight, or even leave a fan on while you sleep. That doesn't sound like a big deal but it may actually be the only thing keeping mosquitos off you!

On the other hand, there are rooms that are just a stones throw from the beach. We slept to the sound of waves crashing. There are also lots of hammocks on the property which are great for lounging.

Also, the owners tend to be on the cheap side and are trying to maximize their profits (thus the water and electricity situation) so what they refer to as "double" beds are really just single beds.

Also you should know that this is on the opposite side of Isla Colon (not the Bocas District side) and so things are a lot quieter and everything closes at 6:30 and there are no nearby stores or water taxi docks. It's a 30 minute $2 bus ride to the other side and the bus comes about once an hour, with the last bus being around 6. After that, it's a $30 taxi ride.
