“Great Scenic Hotel and Decent Service”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

Stayed here for only 1 night and...

PROS: one of the best and most beautiful scenic views of Sun Moon Lake; free w-fi throughout the hotel without the need to input a passcode; private guards to prevent unwanted visitors dropping by the hotel; during check-in time was offered red tea while waiting; breakfast and afternoon tea was included in our rate

CONS: expensive (expect to pay at least $500 US a night); though all employees were polite, our check-in was delayed because our rooms were not ready by check-in time; when we finally checked in to our rooms, there were mosquitoes everywhere so ended up moving; suites were large and had it's own private swimming pool, but they do not have a view of Sun Moon Lake; also to get to your suite you have to walk up a flight of stairs b/c there are no elevators; hotel rooms are a little dark and there is obvious wear and tear; bathroom tiles had black mold and caulking was not professionally installed; toilet seat was loose; noticed comments from other customers about the mosquitoes being almost everywhere due to the hotel's situated location.

RECOMMEND: even if you're staying for one night, make sure you get a room on the top floor because the bottom floors have trees that block most of the scenery

The most romantic room I have stayed in. Amazing views, large living area, beautiful bedroom and best part was the balcony! The fireplace adds to the romanticness of the place. The staff was very good. Out favorite part was waking up to the view of the lake. Never seen anything like it! Wish I can go again.

Stayed here with family while on vacation. The rates are on par with international resort hotel prices, and the accommodations and services are absolutely first rate. The hotel overlooks the Sun Moon Lake, and the views are breathtaking!

The lake felt so touristy with all the boats and people trying to rip you off that we felt lucky we could sit back and enjoy the breathtaking view from our room. The service was great and the staff addressed us by our names. The Chinese restaurant serves a mix of Shanghai and Hong Kong food along with some interesting local specialty. The food is great and should not be missed if you like Chinese food.

The hotel is pricey by Taiwan standard, and there is not much to do around the area except for biking. But since this was probably going to be our once and only trip to the Sun Moon Lake, we were glad we splurged on this hotel.

Room Tip: The higher the better view

I stayed with my husband for 2 nights. We took a long bus trip from Taichung and get off at Shui Sie Tourist Centre. We called the hotel staff to pick up us for free there. When we checked in, we were served with welcome drink and cool towel. They allocated to us the room situated in Wing A, which my friend told me that is not the newest style. They then guide us to our room and use around 5-10 mins to elaborate what we need to know about the room and their service. The room is big but not in luxury style. we felt comfortable especially when we were in the balcony seeing the beautiful sun moon lake.

If compared to other 5 star hotel, I think the variety of the breakfast buffet is not very much, and it seems to serve many japanese style food. Maybe many japanese stay in this hotel. We had dinner in the chinese restaurant, deserts are very delicious, dished especially chicken is very good.

Overall is good. What we think need improvement is the bathroom where we found some black dots around the door frame and rust at the door, which we think should not happened in such luxurious hotel.

Simply stunning location on the lake - after all the tour buses have gone, sitting on the bar terrace with a drink looking out over the lake is a top experience. Apart from a few street lights to the right you just se the temple and pagoda on the opposite shore. Prices as in all the hotels we stayed wwere toppy - about $10 a basic drink. Room was good if a little small, but with balcony. Pool was lovely and the gym good. Very good breakfasts and again you can sit outside (about the only hotel apart from Les Suites in Taipei) we could do this. Also had lunch at the restaurant by the pool which we would recommend - caesar salad $10 and burger $15. Ate first night in the japanese restaurant - not cheap but really good food and good bottle of sake. Small points - the grouting in the bathroom was a bit old and in need of re-doing and the bathroom door only covers the WC or the shower.

Room Tip: the higher the better so go for the 7th floor.

Stayed here for 1 night while visiting Sun Moon Lake. The hotel has very nice zen design and overlooked the lake. The check in was smooth and we had our welcome drink at the lobby while waiting for our bags to arrive at our rooms. The room was ok but if u have kids travelling with you need to be aware that there are no locks to both wc and shower area. I was also puzzled why there is a gap between the wall and the toilet door so one could actually see through the door and have a glimpse of you sitting on the toilet seat? Wrong door measurement? Another frustrating point about the room is the lack of electrical points in the room - I could only find 2 points. One next to my bed and another one near the standing lamp on the floor.

Overall good stay but there are lots of mosquitoes.
