“A bit rundown but great view”
Reviewed April 10, 2013 via mobile

The place was up on a hill so it took us a bit to walk up since we didn't drive. Had a room facing one side of the lake. The view was great as you can see the sun set.

Rooms are ok but slightly rundown.

Not much to do but sit and enjoy the view feom the rooms or patio. Should buy some food and drinks at the town before calling it an evening.

Breakfast is so so as caters mainly to vegetarians.

Teachers get a discount. You have to show an ID and not sure if it's only for Taiwan teachers.

At Sun Moon Lake, hotels can be that expensive. This Hostel offers good value for money. Clean and tidy but seemingly needs some maintenance work to let it look more pleasant. Our room offers lakeview, very nice. The counter staff gave us the impression of being quite bureaucratic, nothing beyond the basics. Needs quite a bit of walk from the lakefront but there're shortcuts once you know the way.

Large rooms great views, have traditional tatami rooms witch fit our family of 5 plus grandpa and grandma. Great value, but if you want luxury go across the street. The breakfast buffet was OK, a little on the bland side, actually the food in the sun moon lake area is all bland, not for foodies.

The lobby of the hotel has a institutional feel like in a university hall of residence. The decoration if basic. This is until you walk into the hotel room, each a lake view. I would recommend a request for a HIGH-FLOOR room to get the best view of the lake. The room decor is modern and simple. The beds are comfortable to ensure a good night sleep. Our room does not have bath but has a good size shower.
Breakfast is primarily oriental although you can still make your own toast. Room rate is mid-range. At the time of our stay, the hotel boardwalk was closed. So we went down to the pier and stroll along the lake-side boardwalk. There is a 150 meter walk down to the pier from the hotel. One word of warning at night, this path is not well illuminated so you might need to carry a touch.
Room rate is reasonably priced and is good value for money. For those travellers who want a good clean room without spending a fortune, the hotel is a good choice.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room with good view of the lake.
