“The beautiful location and genuine people made this an amazing vacation!”
Reviewed April 8, 2016 for a stay in April 2016

We (2 families, 4 adults and 2 children) have just returned from an amazing vacation at Lanka Beach Villa. The property is stunningly gorgeous, even more lovely than the photos. The intricate woodwork, artwork, and furnishings show that this is a beloved vacation home, not an investment property. The pool was perfect, clean and relaxing and it was only steps to the long and peaceful beach.

The staff were warm and genuine and made our week special. Ravi coordinated our stay and airport transport. Manish helped us plan menus, served the meals, cleaned, and made everything perfect. He really went above and beyond to make things special, taking us out to watch the monkeys eat our leftover fruit (an amazing sight - not to be missed!), teaching the kids to feed the koi fish, and arranging our tuk tuk rides. We asked if we could buy coconuts and the next thing we knew, our kind gardener had shimmied up the tree to cut some down for us. Lanka Beach Villa staff were genuinely happy to do these things, and loved seeing the excitement on the kids' faces (and ours too!)

Our talented cook ensured that the meals were a treat - anything from mild pasta and french fries to chicken fried rice, giant prawns, spicy curries, and traditional Sri Lankan salads. He even made scrumptious banana pancake and ice cream desserts to the kids' delight. We ate every meal here. With food and service like this, why would we eat anywhere else? Whenever we needed more ingredients, ground coffee, bottled water, beer, or tonic, they cheerfully picked up some more. At the end of the week we were presented with detailed receipts. We had 3 delicious meals a day for 6 days, and more beer than we intended, yet the bill was less than $500 US.

For transportation around the area, the kind and cheerful Tyta drove us in his tuk tuk. It's about 20 minutes to Tangalle town, but it doesn't seem that far because there's so much to see as you zip by. For some culture, art, and exercise, we recommend the Mulkirigala Rock Temple. Yala and Udawalawe are also a short drive if you'd like a safari. We had surf lessons with Bandula, the best surf instructor in Sri Lanka, on 3 afternoons. (Google Bandula Surfing School for more info and book ahead as he's extremely popular.) The Navajeevana Rehabilitation Center has a nice souvenir shop that benefits their charity programs. Tyta not only drove us safely, but enjoyed staying with us during our outings to share cultural insight and help translate when needed. Tyta even surprised the kids with gifts of tiger cowrie shells and frangipani flowers - they adored him.

All in all, just an amazing trip! Thank you Dr. Hans and Lanka Beach Villa staff for an unforgettable vacation! See you next year...

“Sri Lanka is a paradise, and so was this Villa.”
Reviewed January 4, 2016 for a stay in September 2015

In September 2015 I stayed with friends at Lanka Beach Villa for two unforgettable weeks.
The place lives in high quality and luxury standards. It’s located right behind a stunning typical Indian Ocean paradise beach, with loungers out on the garden to enjoy this fantastic view. There is a great pool, which I preferred rather than a stroll across the boiling hot sand. The sea was pretty calm and we went for some morning swims in the ocean.

The residence has been built very well, with modern features blending in with taste of local culture and architecture, so you don’t feel out of place here. The villa is situated in complete natural surroundings: the beach, palm trees, everlasting ocean view, it’s perfect. We saw monkeys every day, kingfishers and eagles also.

I stayed here with 2 of my friends, and the place was more than big enough to accommodate the three of us, with kitchen and bathroom amenities all right there and ready to use. Included in our price we got the privilege of staff to care of our needs, there was one guy to take care of our dirty towels and linens etc, and the cook who prepared very tasty food for us. The quality and quantity of service and facilities the villa offers is extremely good. Elsewhere many of the additions you are expected to pay for.
It felt like real luxury. The villa also offers a variety of excursions to experience the best of South Sri Lanka, we chose the Elephant viewing tour through the Yala National Park, and the trip to the blowhole, where water from the sea shoots up through some rocks. They have more to offer though, but these were the most interesting to us. I really enjoyed the stay here at the Villa, and I am keeping in close contact with the owner to visit other properties around the world and have equally great experiences.

If I would describe the villa in 1 sentence I’d say:
“a raindrop of perfect quality, in the best landscape possible”

Many thanks again from myself, we had a great trip.

“excellent family holiday”

I have been travelling with my family including 3 children aged 1-5 years and it was a wonderful, relaxing beach holiday. The beach Villa does not leave any wishes open. A spacious garden including a 11 m pool, direct beach access to a 6 km deserted beach. We occupied 3 en-suite double bedrooms, leading to either a garden/beach view balcony or to the main terrace where the meals are served. There is a lot of space and the childred had plenty of space to occupy themselves once in a while when it was pouring down with rain. We had warans visiting the garden and some monkeys at the front gate, looking for food.

The staff looking after us was superb. Ruang who brought us the meals and cleaned the house as well as doing the washing and Arjith the chef, who did the cooking. Knowing well that european taste buds are not used to too much chili, he prepared local food leaving out the hot stuff. He was wonderful and his meals were a daily highlight. And our children loved him and visited him in the kitchen on a regular basis where he always found some treats for them.
Whenever we needed something like stamps, special groceries or just some beer, we just asked and it was brough to us the very day.
We also did some excursions like taking a book ride on the lagoon behind the house to see the monkeys and varans and plenty of birds. We did the Safari tour through the Uda Walawe national park to see the elephants and water buffelos, something that specially the childred loved. We did a market tour through Tangalle, visited the city of Galle, a UNESCO world heritate site.
We just needed to asked the staff and a Minibus was ready for us within the hour with a driver who always took time to look at the turtle along the way or some water buffalos in their waterholes.
Therefore, when you are looking for a relaxing quiet Holiday without the hustle and bustle of a city this is definately the right place for you.

“Pros and cons”

Four of us stayed at this beautiful villa for 10 nights, lovely place, clean tidy, good chef and close enough to the beach, we enjoyed the water monitors visiting us by the lovely pool and even the odd snake!!
It is very remote but ideal if like us you wanted peace and quite. Only down side on the peace and quote was the building each side of the villa of two Cabanas whilst we were their.

One problem we had was there was no price next to the meals on the menu as we only had breakfast and the occasional evening meal, 2 cases of beer for the 10 days, this cost us around 110,000 SL rupees ( £540) . We felt we were always being asked by the manager and his brother for more money. Having travelled around Sri-lanka for a few weeks we thought this quite expensive. Maybe a mistake on our part. I would recommend the restaurants down the track though, the fishermans restaurant and the sunshine cafe, the food in both those places were superb and very good value.

All in all, a lovely villa, but watch out for the brothers grim.

Hello Peter,

thank you for your nice review about the house , the beach , surroundings , cook and staff.

You see we try to offer high standards . Just the same we try with our kitchen which offers a variety of meat, seafood, fresh fish , lobster etc. always coming with different rice specialities and three side dishes of vegetables and salads. And finally European desserts: from mousse au chocolate or wanna cotta on mango mousse to crepe á la coco - only to mention a few.
All that you can have . But of course it is only a proposal ! One can also eat much more moderate and than of course much cheaper : it is just a matter of communication with the chef.

The menu , you mentioned, does not have prices because it is no real menu - it is just a kind of a sample of the dishes for our guests to see what the chef can do .

There are no "restaurant" prices in that "menu" as for all meals and beverages that you order the ingredients will be charged at market price.

And our guests decide themselves what they like to eat and drink .

Please do not compare us with the small and simple local restaurants sitting in the 3. row behind the beach, with no ambience, there you will never get the same quality !

A last word about Mr. Gayan: He is not one of our employees : In fact he owns a small resort by himself and
he is just a very good friend taking care of the house in our absence and taking care of our guests if they wish that. He is a very polite person and his only wish is to make people happy and to show them his wonderful country.

“A beautiful Villa on a magic beach”

After a long travel we arrived at the airport being picked up by the driver of Lanka Beach Villa. A beautiful drive in a comfortable minibus through scenic Sri Lanka we arrived at the Villa. WOW! A perfect spot on a golden beach with a beautiful house. The villa is well equipped and the staff is more than helpful. Everything is kept and cleaned in a perfect condition, the house, the garden and the crystal clear pool. You can enjoy the day at the Villa or the driver can take you in the minibus, to interesting, exciting, beautiful places all within a days travel. The location of the villa is a little remote but if you like a quiet place, this is the place to be. The staff will do the shopping for you or you can take the minibus or a tuk tuk to get you into town. Lanka Beach Villa is highly recommended!

“The most relaxing vacation ever!”

After spending the last eight months in Kuwait (not exactly a garden location!), my wife and I spent one of the most relaxing weeks of our life at this villa. The villa, pool and grounds are kept meticulously clean. The meals were cooked and served to order. The staff were friendly, helpful and courteous. We really felt like we were at home. The sound of the breaking surf was a constant reminder that we were in an idyllic location. Our only visitor while we were there was a sea turtle who came up the beach to lay her eggs (which the staff moved to prevent anyone stealing them - very eco conscious). We will be back again!

Thank you for your kind review:

We arevery glad you enjoyed your stay so much....

We always care very much for the turtles that come to "our" beach to lay their eggs. We released after your stay from that nest 62 hatchlings ( from a green turtle mama) - that was really a great feeling to see the baby turtles disappear into the sea...

Looking to have you back soon !!
