We loved the 2 nights we spent in this 5 rooms hotel. First, it was in a unique setting, very quiet, in front of a rice paddy. So peaceful ! Moreover, we wera almost alone, only 2 rooms were occupied.
The staff was really, really nice, charming, devoted, and quite. The food was excellent, one of the best meal we found in Sri Lanka (maybe a low level than the Ceylon Tea Trail, which is a Relais & Châteaux).
The room was perfect, in beautiful concrete, very well dseigned, with a beautiful light, we had a room with a small garden, the Khumbuk room : i advise it to you.
The swimming pool was nice too.
You just have to know that is better to have a driver to come here, because it 's a bot far away from everything.

I would come back here if i can ! My best hotel experience in SL with the Ceylon Tea Trails !

Room Tip: Defitly the Khumbuk room or the Thekka if you want to have a view on the rice paddy (but it s less i...

This is a beautiful, peaceful corner of the world (and of Sri Lanka) to escape and relax. The staff are amazing, the place itself is incredible and there couldn't be more done to make your stay wonderful (even subscribing to a new satellite channel so my partner could watch the Lions rugby by the pool.)

I'd highly recommend a stay here, even in monsoon season (although I feel like I don't want to tell too many people so there's a room for us next time!)

Room Tip: All of the rooms are lovely, none will disappoint.

This review is a bit late but still had to thank the Maya team and make everyone aware of how good this place is. We stayed here for 2nights as part of our honeymoon. We felt like royalty while we were here - the staff were amazing and did everything they could to make our honeymoon so special. We had this place to ourselves too so it was very quiet and peaceful and romantic. We had a surprise heart shaped cake with candles for our first night and beautiful flowers on the bed after dinner. The food was exquisite and we didn't want to leave! The hotel is fitted out beautifully with class and attention to detail. The location is scenic with beautiful sunsets while the peacocks wander the rice paddies in front of the hotel grounds. We really loved this place and would go back there in a heart beat

Room Tip: We were given a choice of rooms! We stayed in one of the rooms in the extension. Very large and open...

We spent 5 nights at Maya during our trip to Sri Lanka and it felt like home by the time we left. I was quite distraught as we drove away (although my husband put my moist eyes down to being 4 months pregnant...)

The peacefulness at Maya was exactly what my husband and I had come away for. It only took a day for all the stress to leave both of us and for us to succumb to the tranquility.

We were exceptionally lucky to have the entire house to ourselves for the first night and day and after that there were still only a few people so noise levels were minimal.

We stayed in the main house - with doors opening onto the pool.

To say the service was impeccable is an understatement. The staff all really went above and beyond to look after us eg making us a packed breakfast for 3:30am when we went to Yalla on Safari one day (a must do day trip!)

Dinesh and Perera were really helpful and gave great advice on local restaurants when we wanted different food for a change. The food at Maya is amazing but sometimes it was good to go locally to other places (and better on our wallet...) and have a change of scenery.

Maya was a magical world were time seemed to stand still - though we have no idea where 5 days went so quickly! The wildlife in the gardens was just so beautiful. From teal peacocks, to newborn chicks in their nests, to giant iguanas, water buffalo in a nearby field, geckos playing games on the ceilings and tiny frogs leapfrogging through the pool at night. Who needs to go on Safari?!

My husband had a traditional Sri Lankan massage which he thoroughly enjoyed.

We had a driver so trips were quite easy for us but Maya is not located too near Tangalle - and there isn't much to do there so you may wish to consider a driver.

If I *had* to find fault I would say their huge DVD collection was mostly empty boxes or DVDs that didn't work - frustrating after one of the staff sweetly set the TV up for us. Also the bikes they have to cycle to the nearby village aren't really useable... But these things don't really detract from Maya being what it is - a place for relaxation.

We can't wait to go back.

Every correspondence from owner Niki starts with "Greetings from Peaceful Maya" & that is so true. If you want serenity & calm there are few better places than this. Niki was brilliant at handling our booking request - rarely have we had such help & attention to detail before we had even arrived. We took the seaplane down from Colombo to Dickwella (only 20 mins from Maya) on Niki's advice & it was a superb way to start our holiday - amazing views & an excellent price & no need for the lengthy car journey.

When we arrived we were looked after superbly by house manager Dinesh. We had been unable to decide between the two suites in the old wing which are identical apart from the view - in the end we chose Thekku Suite with views over the pool & rice paddy beyond which was beautiful although all 5 rooms are lovely - very stylish & in superb condition.

Dinesh did an amazing job of taking care of us. Thanks to his advice, we not only saw some of the lovely (but popular) local beaches but also ones which were totally deserted apart from the two of us. We had chosen to stay at Maya because we wanted take a full day safari to Yala National Park & although there are hotels closer to the park than the hotels around Tangalle they are not of the same quality . We had arranged our safari privately with Ajith Safaris (seperate review) which turned out to be a fantastic company & our safari was well worth the long day with lots of incredible animal sightings, including several leopard close up.

It was wonderful just to sit & relax in the beautiful surroundings of Maya although it is an easy trip into Tangalle if you fancy a change of scenery. But for us it was great to be able to walk straight out of Maya & into the local life of the nearby small temple, spotting flocks of peacocks & water buffalo along the way. Maya is trying to help the local community by offering donations raised at the hotel to re-build a temple wall. It is always nice to be able to do something for the local community like this.

The pool was wonderful as were the seperate areas to sit & relax & the staff will set up a table for dinner in the grounds if you want some seclusion - nothing is too much trouble. Meals are very good - especailly the Sri Lankan Rice & Curry & the delicious breakfasts. During our 3 night stay there were always guests with young children. This did not bother us as they were all lovely but others felt that for somewhere as special & peaceful as Maya a minimum children's age might be an idea. Even so, Maya is a haven of tranquility & we would definitely return.

Room Tip: In the old wing - Thekku, in the new - the central room has the best private garden.

We stayed in the Amangalle , then the Amanwella .
The food, cocktails and generous hospitality was way and beyond. Beautiful stylish rooms. A wonderful oasis.
I would defiantly return? It is not easy to find good food in Sri Lanka , this was how I imagine was eating at home in Sri Lanka .
