We stayed here for 4 nights. We were traveling in a group of 5 and me and my partner needed a room for two. The other 3 booked a room in the hotel building by the sea on the condition that we can get a room in the road side hotel building (owned by the same person) for 1000 Rs without A/C and breakfast, also no hot water and very basic accommodation with a kingsize bed and very old bathroom. Breakfast was 500 Rs per and was ok. The usual toast buyer and jam, juice, tea/cofee. It was funny that in the menu it said 5 toasts and when you ordered 1 breakfast you got 4 toasts, when ordering 2 you got 9 toast. What was nice is that we could eat directly on the beach, priceless. The staff were all boys of very young age looked around about 16-21. They were all very kind boys. Carried our bags and such. The beach is very pretty but with big waves which was very fun but probably a no no for older people and small children.

We originally stayed in a nearby hotel but left because we were dissatisfied. We came across Gayana while walking along the beach at night and the staff were incredibly helpful and the price of the room was half of what we paying a few hotels down. The room was basic but had everything we required and it was very clean, with a view of the beach. The staff organised tuctuc drivers and tours as we required and always for a reasonable price. The food produced by the restaurant was good and served right on the beach which was lovely setting to dine.

i had the pleasure of staying at gayana hotel on and off from february until end of may 2013. The rooms are large with fantastic scenes-lush,colorful variety of stunning tropical plants, the ocean and a short walk to town for food-although their food is excellent as well! The beach is large with fantastic waves-fun place to be. And the family is great- fun having the 2 forever smiling boys/young man around-they treat you like family.

I visited here with my wife for only one day. This is really good place with nice location. Just with the beach and with the sound of the waves it is a good place to stay with a minimum price. Room and bath rooms were clean and AC and fans were good. They had hot water also. There is a balcony with good space that see the blue Indian ocean. Even it is in the south coast of the country you can really enjoy the sun rise with sea view on your balcony. The staff is really friendly with good manners. They came many times when I called by room phone which I haven't seen from many sri lankan middle priced hotels. The food also good for dinner and breakfast hot and spice sri lankan food. I enjoyed very much the stay...

Room Tip: Rooms in the beach side

If you have ever wondered what it would feel like to be on a deserted island, stay here! We were transfered here from another Hotel after they double booked us and we are so pleased they did and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was beautiful, clean and serene! The staff were friendly and our room was well priced. Im not sure the food in Tangalle in general was the best but it was fine.

All in all a beautiful location, i would recommend this to anyone.

We don't usually stay in the hotel type of places but by the time we passed in front of it and since we have checked a couple of places before (one overpriced, the other smaller place had no one around to answer), we gave it a try and got an airy double fan room with balcony and sea view in the new wing for 2500. Hot water worked fine, mosquito net was in good shape, some long chairs were available for sunbathing on the beach front.

It was low season and I don't think there were more than 3-4 rooms occupied at the busiest day we were there. There's no light fixtures anywhere, that's weird considering someone took the time to paint the wall in three different colors following the junction with the ceiling... Anyway we weren't there for aesthetics.

Location wasn't bad, I needed to go to the bank and such, it was only a few minutes walk away. The beach isn't that wide at high tide though. We went for a walk further out and it gets bigger but windier as well.

They do receptions and banquet in there, so be aware of that. Nothing was going on during our stay so it was quiet and we slept well with the sea breeze coming in. There's the main building with restaurant across the street, seems older, no idea what the rooms are like in there.

We ordered breakfast on our last morning, it was pretty good but took a long time. Western style, 400 Rs per person.

And yeah, that bottle of water in the room wasn't complimentary, like someone else said. They'll charge restaurant price for it, 100 Rs.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the new building, with a sea view and fewer neighbours.

The fan could not spin when the mosquito net was up. The bed was built for a midget so everything from my calves down hung off and hit the mosquito net. The pillows must have been rocks in another lifetime. The mattress had prickly things sticking up from it. The smell from the kitchen (which doesn't have great reviews) stunk out our room. The beach was just across the road though which was good. You can make up your mind as to how much you're willing to sacrifice for something near the beach...
