The villas here are very large with a huge four poster bed. Pool was small but refreshing. Breakfast was a choice of set menu which was lovely and generous. Hospitality was great. Unfortunately, though you could see the water from the villa, there was a busy narrow road between the villas and the beach.

We stayed four nights at Moonstone Villa in July. It was the best sleep I had all holiday! The bed was so comfortable and it was very quiet (we were at the back, the furthest room from the road). Rooms are clean, without any frills but they're large and I managed to get a wifi signal from the room. Great value for the price. Staff were very helpful and the cleaning was great. Pool was good for kids. My husband and daughter loved the buffet breakfast.

Room Tip: We were in room 7 at the back which was lovely and quiet and overlooked the pool.

My daughter and I stayed at Moonstone Villas for 12 nights while we were doing some voluntary work in nearby schools. From my initial enquiry regarding availability to the moment we left Moonstone we found Raelene, Mr Anil and all the staff absolutely fantastic. They were friendly, helpful and could not have done more to make our stay enjoyable. The room was very comfortable with both air con and a ceiling fan, the pool was lovely to swim in and relax around and the restaurant served excellent food with a nice variety of cuisines. All the rooms have a balcony or patio complete with a couch or day bed which was great for relaxing with a book.
As well as our lovely breakfasts each morning we had toasted sandwiches and salads for lunch, and pasta, pizza, seafood as well as Sri Lankan curry for dinner. I enjoyed a very nice pineapple crumble with ice cream a number of times!!!

To everyone at Moonstone Villas a BIG Thank You !!! We hope to return in future.

For anyone looking for accommodation in Tangalle, do yourself a favour and stay at Moonstone Villas.

PS . We happened to find an excellent local Tuk Tuk driver by the name of Rohitha (phone no. 071 750 5991) who transported us to and from school each day as well as doing extra trips around the area. He was safe, reliable, punctual and a nice fellow too! I can highly recommend him.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper you might like to request a villa towards the rear of the property. We ha...

we only stayed here 1 night but could have easily stayed more. The hotel owner is a lovely lady who made sure we were having a great time.
The restaurant food was SO good with a huge buffet breakfast.
I would totally recommend staying here.

We stayed at the Moonstone Villas for 3 nights and loved it. We were in a travelling party of 4 adults and 4 kids (11month to 5 years old). The pool was a great size for the kids and the rooms were excellent – big and cool with aircon – which was such a nice bonus! Raelene was very helpful with our adventure to the turtles (make sure you take a torch if you can). We were very excited to see the Green Turtle laying her eggs. The whole coastline is gorgeous – the beach we enjoyed was the one Raelene recommended – nearly Paradise Palms (not sure of the exact name). It was perfect for kids and the beach shack and food was great. The food at the Moonstone Villa was great and kids under 6 eat for free, the chefs were so accommodating to our kids eating times and request. We were very luck that our wonderful wonderful driver – Priyantha who also helped organise our trip – took us to his mother’s house in the village 30 minutes from Tangalle and she cooked us food for lunch and it was so fabulous to meet his family and see how the food was traditionally cooked. They were such generous hosts and it was definitely a highlight for us. We had a great time in Tangalle and look forward to returning one day.

We spent 5 nights at Moonstone, following a busy travelling schedule that included Kandy, Adams Peak, Ella and Yala National Park. This was the perfect place to relax and reflect on what a wonderful country Sri lanka is. The accommodation is very modern, great quality with large air conditioned bedrooms and a comfortable balcony. the restaurant serves nice food - but do also try either of the beach restaurants across the road in Tangalle Bay (2 mins). Tangalle bay is great for swimming, but for children you need to be aware that the beach shelves rapidly making it a challenge to get in and out of the water. Once in though, it is safe and was 28'C.... the villas are a 5 minute walk from the town and it is worth the walk to visit the market. Also a good 'Food City' supermarket for stocking up on soft drinks and water. A tuk tuk ride back is only 200 rupees (£1) which will be saved if you get two bottles of water. The pool is a nice size, with nice loungers available. Staff were excellent and made us feel very welcome.

The Moonstone Villas was a wonderful place to spend a part of our vacation. With clean comfortable rooms, a relaxing pool, and excellent food at the restaurant it made the stay easy and enjoyable. To make things even better, the owner, Rayleen (sorry if I spelled that wrong) was a wealth of information about nearby beaches and attractions. She was helpful in finding drivers and negotiating prices for tuk tuks. I look forward to returning.
