blasting side straight on the beach in the midst of palm trees. one friendly smile from the side of the staff would have made our stay just perfect...
some bad ambience was in the air. nevertheless a beautiful place on earth. prices seem to vary from one day to the other. we were offered first for 6500 rp, and then got the room for 5000 (they charged another 500 rp for our little two kids, quite uncommon).

The setting at the beach and the garden are beautiful but our stay was overshadowed by unfriendly service and what we felt was little consideration for us as customers. Our guide book describes the Ibis as a very "welcoming" guest house. Unfortunately, we did not feel welcome at all. The Ibis is overpriced in relation to other places near by - but we would have been happy to pay a bit more if that had meant that we were to be afforded an appropriate, and friendly treatment. However, it was just the opposite. We definitely felt that the owners were just trying to milk their guests as best as they can. The slightest request (such as a couple of extra hangers for our room) is only a bother for the owners and is met with a "no" (no "sorry", just "no"). The long waiting times at the restaurant are accompanied by rudeness (after enquiring about our food after 1.5 hours of waiting time we were told to RELAX...). Everything is charged extra. They even went so far as to charge us for a couple of slices of lemon that I wanted for the calamari I ordered (!). We stayed for over a week and left about 500 Euros for accommodation and meals at the restaurant, we also booked a tour with the Ibis - however, when we left the guesthouse we did not even get a smile, a "thank you" or a "goodbye". They just took the money and that's it. Rarely have I received such a rude treatment anywhere and rarely have I felt so disrespected as a customer. We have stayed at many places while in Sri Lanka, nowhere else did we encounter this kind of attitude. We understand that a small guesthouse must try to earn enough money in peak season to get by the rest of the year - but this should not be at the extent of the customers feeling at home and welcome. At the Ibis, the customer is always at the short end of the stick and that feeling really soured our holiday.

Calm location, and rooms reasonably equipped. That is the best that can be said.
The owner was the most dishonest we found in 3 weeks in Sri Lanka. Cheated us with the price of fish (do not order any food there without having the price agreed and written!), finding excuses to not to give us wifi password (adverticed for free!) and very unflexible. One of the waiters working there was very kind though...
For that price (6500 rupies/double room per night) there are better options around.

Dear guests,

full and fresh fish has a daily price, please ask before ordering!
To our guests we always give the passwort of the wifi, but sometimes the conection is not working very well in Sri Lanka, very sorry!

We stayed in this guesthouse for 3 nights. The location is nice, but you can get many other alternative places for a much cheaper price. The room was OK, but certainly not great (we only experienced hot water once and there were ants everywhere in the bathroom). Owners seem friendly atr first, but then you realize they only care about money and not about their guests. The restaurant is much more expensive than other nearby places and the service is really poor. They make you wait for hours and then just tell you "relax". It was really annoying and we do not recommend this place at all.

Dear guests!

"As you call it in the forest, the call is coming back."
And yes, the Ibis Restaurant is more expensive then other places, but the food is fresh and has a very good quality.

This guest house is everything you could ask for in Tangalle. The staff are incredibly friendly, the food is fantastic and the rooms are clean and comfortable. We spend two days lying on their daybeds, enjoying the sun and the sand and we could have done that for at least two more! Highly recommend.

Stayed in 2nd week of November in the first room on the upper floor of the main building. Double bed was huge and comfortable. The one snag was the one light was positioned such that reading in bed was difficult. Food was good although prices were slightly higher than places nearer town. Although swimming was not recommended except at the sea edge the range of beach furniture was exceptional and we spent days just lazing in sun and shade. Would certainly return when next touring the South Coast.

My friend and I stayed at Ibis for three nights and would have stayed longer if we could have. The rooms were clean and spacious and the food was delicious. Our days were spent walking along the beautiful beaches, reading on the sunbeds, eating fresh fruit platters in very comfy cabanas and playing table tennis - what more could you want. I would recommend this place to anyone.
