Mangrove Beach Cabanas & Chalets

We stayed in the cabana beach front. Very relaxing room and nice sea view from the bed and balcony. The service is great, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Western food is just ok, Sri Lankan food is superb. However, a few mosquitoes are around so be prepared, no WIFI at the restaurant which is good and bad, although you can walk to their office and use the wifi ( very long walk tho), no cleaning service daily( you have to ask), no hot shower which is alright for me anyway. You cannot swim in the sea in front of resort but you can do in a short walk at the natural rock pool. Overall it's good to visit if you're seeking to stay in an unspoiled, peaceful, nature resort.

Amazing beaches, palm trees and a cocktail: just the perfect vacation! Staff was wonderful! We stayed for 4 nights and they were always very, very friendly. Buffet at night was OK, not very special, but lunch was very good! Fish is very recommended. Definitely the best place to stay in Tangalla!

We stayed three nights in July in the chalets. First the good - it's one of the nicest beaches we've found on the South Coast. However the sea is far too rough for swimming. Luckily the hotel is opposite a bit of reef/rock which creates a small pool that is safe (at times) for swimming or lazing.

The staff were generally good (though the sweet manager seemed a bit down hearted). The chalets are just concrete bunkers with no frills and halogen lights which make them seem quite cold and uninviting. There's nothing remotely warm or cosy about them, but outside there are nice lounging areas and the open space in front is lovely. The chalets are also open - no glass in the windows so the noise of the surf and of neighbours was very loud. I'm a light sleeper but we both had to wear earplugs to sleep.

Things that needed improving: the toilet was broken, a lightbulb needed replacing, we had to ask them to come clean the room.

The food was very so so in the restaurant, but right next door is the fantastic beach shack restaurant sha sha which does amazing sea food. I'd skip the food at the hotel and just go there or into town. We ate at Prem next to the bus station which was the best meal I think I've had in my life, most definitely in the whole of Sri Lanka.

The wifi was also annoying - they only have one modem and they move it between the beach bar and the main restaurant at different times of day. For most people this might not be a problem but it was irritating.

Our daughter who is 6 really enjoyed being able to run around and the lagoon which is right behind the resort is just beautiful. Do not miss the chance to kayak around it. It's absolutely stunning.

What you see in the picture is exactly what you get. If your after simple beach accommodation this is a good option.

The service was terrific however no wi-fi and the beach being unswimmable we're a bit of a let down. The main issue is the strong current on the beach especially in this season. When you imagine staying on the beach in a hut you also imagine swimming in the beautiful ocean. You can walk down the beach 300-400 meters to sit in the water but you can only use a sheltered rock pool and even then you must be careful.

Walk over a swinging bridge to reach coconut grove on beach with chalets. Stuff dreams are made of. Accommodation rustic and basic with no air con, one ceiling fan and open air windows which meant we had some bugs and a froggy visitor to share the room with but the charm of the place more than makes up for it. Breakfasts and dinner fantastic and majority of staff - in particular Prabath - very helpful and knowledgeable. Highlights include secluded beach with lagoon suitable for children, canoeing on the mangroves with our kids discovering huge lizards and plenty of wildlife, turtle spotting at Rekawa and day trip to Yala. Massages also highly recommended. A great place to chill out after 10 days of touring Sri Lanka and the hill country. Rooms not cleaned daily.

Room Tip: Bring insect repellant and go for half board option

Waouw! What a wonderful place with a wonderful staff and wonderful rooms! We loved it! It is so quiet and beautiful and environment friendly.
If you want peace and a beautiful view, do not hesitate.
The 4 cabanas on the beach are superb and quite annoying; you cannot see the bathroom when you get inside because you have to open a hatch on the ground and step down a staircase to discover a huge bathroom.
What a pleasure to wake up in the morning and to open the curtains to see the sea!

Great spot in Sri Lanka if you want to share a beach with just a few people and away from the busy parts of town. Food was good and the staff was super friendly and accommodating.

Pros:
Turtle watching at night. I didn't see any, but each morning we saw the tracks...some which went right past the cabanas. Bring a flashlight
Remote area
Plenty of places to lay back and relax. Love the hammocks!
Plenty of sun and shade under the palm trees
The place was fully booked and I feel like we shared the beach with only 10 other people. The beach is big so very spacious.
Rooms were clean with a ceiling fan
Shower outside to rinse after coming out of the beach.
Dinner over lagoon is nice and relaxing
Beautiful Sunset and Sunrise. You can see the moon and sun at the same time.

Cons:
Beach isn't the easiest to swim in. Big waves crash close to the shore. (Just watch your kids)
Wouldn't recommend for snorkeling.
Hot night? There is only a ceiling fan in room
Water sometimes did not work, but for the most part 30min later it was fine
Remote: Have to use their tuk tuk to go places...but hey it's cheap!

Cons were really minor and really didn't bother me. It's a great place to go and just relax! Feel free to reach out for more info!

Room Tip: I was with one other person and we got the rooms closest to the beach. Lots of space. The bigger ro...
