Gorgeous place to say. Huge golden sand beach and wonderful chalets amidst the palm trees. Great service.

The only bad thing is the restaurant. The food is at best OK, but it is twice the price of anywhere else we went in Sri Zlanka and the portion sizes are very small.
Recommend you get a tuktuk into Tangalle for dinner much better option.

Mangrove Beach Cabanas is a beautiful place to stay in Tangalle, right on the beach. There are two properties run here, the cheaper cabanas and more expensive chalets. The phone number when booking is for both, but the properties are managed by two teams. When we arrived, our driver didn't want to leave without being sure we had a reservation, he said something along the lines of they make mistakes here. And, well they had. They had us down for arriving the next day even though we had reconfirmed with them the day before. So, they placed us in a cabana that was not right on the beach. They didn't offer any discount, and this cabana had a huge hole in the mosquito net above the bed, so my friend awoke the next morning covered in bites. The next day we moved to a cabana on the beach. We enjoyed this one much more. The food here was tasty, we stuck with seafood. I would stay here again, just wish they had a better booking system.

Room Tip: Pay a little extra and make sure you get a chalet with a beach view.

Arriving in the dark and crossing a bridge with limited torch light we didn't
Know what we were in for. We were pleasantly surprised when we made it to our chalet. Built with polished concrete and a lovely Wooden roof, the chalets are comfortable and in tune with their surroundings. based right on the beach you are welcomed with many palms and the sounds of the waves. The shower is an open shower and the shells make a nice touch as toilet roll holders!!! The room has 2 comfortable queen size beds (family chalet) with large mosquito nets and are very clean. With natural ventilation and a fan the temperature was comfortable most of the time but at times it would have been nice for a blast of air con. The verandah was lovely to sit on and listen to the waves and had a large bed to lay on too. It wasn't very busy when we stayed and the staff were very attentive and up for a chat. The Sri Lankan breakfast was delicious and the vegetable curries also rather tasty.

Overall I would recommend staying here - we basically had the beach to ourselves and managed to truly relax. Wifi, good food, friendly staff and a lovely chalet - what more could you want?

We stayed off-season in June, so very few guests and what seemed like a bargain at less than $30 a night for a double bed chalet with a lovely bathroom. Very nicely designed. A new open air dining hall had just opened which was beautiful, and the food good. In June even the rock pool is far too dangerous for anyone other than a very strong swimmer, but a short walk along the beach there is another cabana complex with a pool where you can swim for 500 rupees per person. This was completely deserted in June and we had the huge pool to ourselves. No luck seeing beach turtles on this stretch of coast. Only problem is that tuk-tuks ordered through the chalets were very overpriced.

Fantastic beach cabanas with a great location on a very quiet, sandy beach. The sea isn't swimmable but there is a tidal pool a few minutes down the beach which is swimmable.

The cabanas are suitably basic with mosquito nets and their own bathrooms. We didn't get any hot water in our room - but that might just have been a technical problem whilst we were there. Beds are comfortable, with a ceiling fan to get some air moving so it isn't too hot and sticky.

Restaurant was pretty good and not awfully priced - you pay at the end of your stay rather than on a meal by meal basis though, so you might want to keep an eye on your spending to avoid shocks.

10 minute tuk tuk ride into Tangalle, and the hotel can arrange trips to turtle beach etc.

Only downside whilst we were there was a late night beach party on the Saturday night, which started about 3am and woke most people up. Also if you aren't totally comfortable with nature you might find the resort a bit unnerving.

Would definitely stay here again though - completely relaxing and an amazing sunset and view.

Room Tip: Go for the beach cabanas rather than the garden ones
