This is the best hotel to stay in Sigiriya. Very close to the main attraction, Sigiriya Rock and with a fantastic view from the hotel. Rooms are big, spacious and clean. Staff is friendly. It feels like living in the midst of a jungle. The spa is excellent and very reasonably priced.

All rooms are on the ground floor and located amidst lots of greenery. Breakfast is good and the restaurant chef was very helpful- he even made a nice vegetarian dish for us on request.

2 small irritants - price of bottled water is very high and the USD-SLR exchange rate offered by the hotel wasn't very good.

Point to note that is that its meant for relaxation - if you re looking for nightlife, markets n reataurants nearby, then you should not stay in Sigiriya...then Dambulla is the town to stay.. However, I personally feel that its so much relaxing to stay in Sigiriya amidst nature, enjoy the rock and then chill at the hotel.

All in all - Sigiriya Rock and this hotel were the highlight of our 8 day long Sigiriya trip.

Room Tip: All rooms are good....with great garden views/pool views.

Sigiriya is one of the most beautiful places in Sri Lanka and should not be missed by any traveller to Sri Lanka, specially those who are interested in culture & history.

Hotel Sigiriya has a very unique location, it is located around 1 km from the Sigiriya Rock and you can watch the Lion Rock from the lobby area overlooking the swimming pool. This sight is amazing & you can actually see the hotel & its swimming pool from top of the Sigiriya rock.

Hotel room & facilities were average. We had utilised the Triple room, which has an additional area and a separate bed. Our beds were creaking all the time & we realised that the matress was held in place with pieces of wooden planks. It was one of the shoddiest job I have seen ever.

We had opted for B&B package and we tried to check the restaurant for Lunch option after our arrival. The restaurant was initially deserted with only one family beside ours but soon a bus load of foreign tourists came in. The set menu was a mix & match of Italian, Continental & Indian/Sri Lankan food. Although we were informed by receptionist that Lunch & Dinner were buffet the restaurant confirmed that only Dinner is buffet.

We chose to skip Hotel Sigiriya menu & decided to take the short walk to next door Sigiriya Village hotel. Contrary to our hotel's restaurant Sigiriya Village restaurant was more cheery and full of local tourists. They had a wide variety of Sri Lankan/Chinese food and it was tasty.

Both Hotel Sigiriya & Sigiriya Village are surrounded by thick forests and we got our second opportunity to see the monitor lizard on the grounds of Hotel Sigiriya. Apparently these creatures come close to the restaurant in search of food and there was a protective net put outside the restaurant.

Although we couldn't see the Sigiriya Village rooms, overall it was definitely more pleasent and lively than Hotel Sigiriya. I would prefer to stay at Sigiriya Village next time for its atmosphere & food.

Next day we had breakfast at our hotel, which was good, before heading for the rock and two hours of arduous climb up & down. However, at end of it, we felt that it was worth even for unfit town folks like us.

Hotel Sigiriya has a well mannered & pleasent staff specially at the reception. Those who want to enjoy pieceful surrounding and not much bothered for local food could find Hotel Sigiriya a better options. For families travelling with their young children, I would recommend them to consider Sigiriya Village.

The location couldn't have been better for what we wanted to do in the area, which was climb Sigiriya Rock. The pictures don't lie, there is a gorgeous view of it fromt he pool. We also got in our elephant ride right outside the hotel.

The shared facilities here were excellent -- the pool area, open air bar and restaurant -- and perfectly suited for relaxing after a tough morning hike. The room itself had its pluses and minuses --

Pros: high ceilings, AC, flat screen TV, garden view including monkeys, clean
Cons: terribly uncomfortable hard mattresses, oddly laid out and minimal bathroom

I found throughout Sri Lanka that a "double bed" means two twin beds pushed together. This is not ideal for couples traveling together. However, I can't really knock this hotel in particular for something that seems to be a national trend.

Our overall experience here was great, and the location, food and value made up for any negatives.

Stayed here for 3 days while touring Sri Lanka, lovely location. I agree with other reviews that the rooms are a little dated, but they are clean, large and very comfortable so don't worry. The food was excellent and all the staff were great. Had time for a quick dip in the very clean swimming pool which can be seen from the top of the rock.

Stayed here in October for 2 nights for trip to Lion Rock. Rooms very clean, although bathroom perhaps a little dated. Bar area very relaxed. Dining/restaurant was great, we stayed on a B&B basis but ate here for all meals anyway. All the staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful.

Perfect place to stay if you're climbing the rock the next morning - food was good, rooms clean, staff attentive. No particular wow factor, but nothing negative either.

Lovely setting with the fortress seen direct from the pool. Rooms v comfortable -only slight compliant was managing the air con although did not tell the management to be fair. Only 15 minutes to the Sigiriya fortress and there are tuck tucks at the end of the path. A few small shops a step away but did not try the restaurants as ate the buffet in the hotel which was 1600 rupees. A la carte not a big choice - some music to keep us happy and many many monkeys running round as well. You can get a local elephant ride if you want.
We went from here for day trip to Trincomolee but it is 2.5hrs away. Mainly you come her to go up the Fortress which is about an hour treck uphill mostly thankfully in the shade but you can stop at the elephants feet and turn back if you cannot make it - well worth the effort
