“great resort in a beautiful setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2012

A friendly welcome with true Sri Lankan coffee. Huge rooms that are traditionally decorated with very unusual front door. Room was clean with a fridge which was great for freezing water for
the long days sightseeing. The location is perfect for all the attractions in the cultural triangle as
they are very spread out (far better than moving from place to place)Having arrived by local
bus we were unsure how to visist them all but a short walk down the laneway we met a great
tuk tuk driver who ended up being our tour guide for the three days at a great price.Because of
the isolation you have to have all your meals at the resort but the amazing buffett breakfast
was enough to keep you going all day while visiting the attractions. At night there was a choice of
buffet or normal menu. the food was great.Lying by the pool of an afternoon was so relaxing and the staff couldnt do enough for you we didnt want to leave.

Room Tip: If you have young children you might want a room closer to the main entrance as when we walked dow...

Surrounded by jungle. 10 minutes from Sigiriya.Room was large, clean, and comfortable in a slightly dated sort of way, and are in 1 storey blocks seperate from the reception and bar/ restaurant area. 2 minutes walk along paths where you sometimes see lizards and turtles coming out of the pond in the centre.. Flowers on the bed every night were a nice touch. Have breakfast in the open ( just a roof) restaurant, with a perfect view of the fantastic Sigiriya rock, and troups of monkeys playing in the trees by the pool. Fantastic. The staff were very polite and courteous, as was the case almost everywhere in SriLanka. Food was buffet style and fairly good.SriLankan hot curry but always something without curry available for the cowardly Europeans like myself. But for me, it was the big ground monitor lizards and chameleons etc that made it special. Only around the pond. Not in the rooms. And they are harmless. Just stunning. You might even get monkeys on the roof of your room sometimes. Exotic. Fantastic for jungle lovers.

Room Tip: The A/C units made a bit of noise, so I always take soft earplugs to these places. Otherwise, I thin...

The hotel's exterior design is great. You may love the set-up and the view of the Lion rock from several locations.

Rooms are spacious and clean in general, however the style of the room and the furniture were average. A very old TV hidden in a box, the bed average and not too comfortable, but it was overall acceptable for a good night's sleep after hiking up lion rock.

The pool is clean and functional, sitting around it and using it is allowed through night time, so we enjoyed our time there being a big group of friends.

Food was horrible at the hotel, and that's my major downside, chicken is always uncooked (we tried several times being many people), taste is lacking for main dishes ordered A la Carte, we were terrified of trying the buffet having had such bad experiences at lunch time. Minced beef has crushed bones, a chicken sandwich also has some bones. Your safest bet is a big fruit platter for an affordable price, which was my dinner, as that's something you can't go bad with.

Room Tip: Triple rooms are just double rooms with an extra bed, you may need to flip a coin!

Visited for one night on our way to Trinco. It was late at night when we arrived and we were not able to find the place. So we kept on calling the hotel but no one picked up. After roaming for one hour we finally found the hotel. Rooms were ok. Didnt have much time to think about the rooms since we were so tired and badly wanted to sleep. The breakfast was amazing! Lot of choices and the food was great. Service is good but I feel the pool and the restaurant should be renovated. overall a nice hotel with a perfect view of Sigiriya Rock.

This hotel exceeded our expectation. To begin with, the actual hotel looked a lot better than its pictures posted on this site. The restaurant and reception area is separated from the hotel room area by a beautiful garden, so it is a pleasurable walk between the two places. The hotel itself has a very nice exotic aura about it. Our room was spacious with a large bathroom (just that it only have a shower, but I was totally ok with that), a dinning area that looked really charming with two chairs of unequal heights (see attached), and even a small open room for you to dry your clothes.
Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was great (Sri Lankan style and lots of fruits)!
You will spot monkeys lurking around too but they will not bother you.
We stayed there for one night in order to be close to the Sigiriya Rock which we planned to visit the next morning. The Sigiriya Rock is only a few minutes drive from this hotel and you can actually see this big rock fortress from the swimming pool area of the hotel which is really awesome.
It was a pity that we did not get to use the facility of this hotel due to the limited time of our stay.

I traveled this time with my family and not with my usual travel partner, we totally had 4 rooms and we stayed 2 nights. The hotel it self is situated in a lovely location where there is a excellent view of the lions rock from the pool or dinning area, the hotel has a villa/cottage concept, the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The rooms had the usual fridge, complementary waters etc , but what i felt a bit unique was that every room has a different design of embroidery work near the bed. Outside the rooms they have attempted a Eco concept, with little models of paddy fields and tree houses, its pleasant and gives a good feel. Its not a very big place but its spacious and lovely to have a walk, the surroundings are very green and the natural sounds of birds and insects is pretty nice. The hotel is lovely it self but what makes this hotel i believe is amazing is the service.

Since the occupancy was low the time we went the hotel had a course menu set than a buffet, the food was lovely, my dad has a medical condition of which he cannot have any pepper or spice in the food. We explained this to the dinning staff and they had one of the cooks or kitchen staff come to us and hear us out. That made a amazing difference, it assured us that all the meals from the hotel will be noted to be made with adjustments for my dad. The entire staff of the hotel were very friendly and helpful, the dinner buffet had a wide choice and many times we had the staffs checking on us whether we were alright. I must point out that the F&B manager was exceptionally friendly and made sure we enjoyed our food. The hotel has tennis, badminton courts and indoor games like chess and checkers which they even allowed us to take it our rooms and later collected them.

why the four stars , it should have been five but in the end when we checked out they reception staff charged us for a bottle of water which they claimed was used from the minibar. They provided us with complementary waters and then claimed we used the minibar for water. It was a mood killer after having a lovely two days in an amazing serviced hotel, we were kept for more than 30 mins regarding the mere single bottle issue. Always best to make sure they mini fridge is checked before check-in in any hotel . Over all loved the stay :)

Room Tip: Furthest rooms would be quieter from other guests walking about

Located within sight of Sigiriya Rock, we stayed here for 2 nights while visiting Sigirya. The hotel is spread out with villa type accommodation in the forest and arrival was welcoming with fruit juice for us all, and check-in speedy. Luckily we just missed a tour bus full...

Room was a short walk away and was nice and comfortable, although bed layout unusual (at right angles to each other) and no TV (which is a good thing!). Room was furnished in 'country' style, with small verandah out front. All rooms are set in groups around a feature - ours was by a small stream with ducks and turtles in residence. In the morning a troupe of monkeys were running around the roofs and generally having fun - our children loved this.

Pool was nice if a little small and although the hotel was quite busy, it was never crowded. Bar was nice if service very slow at times - although when we mentioned it they were very apologetic and couldn't do enough for us. Restaurant was quite good with good local dishes and good service, and again was quite busy but never crowded.

All in all a good stay and a great setting, and we would stay again if we ever go back to Sigiriya.
