Sigiriya Village Hotel

The hotel is located on the edge of a big @ dry forest (paradise of strangling figs) with an incredible diversity of wildlife, where wild elephants and other animals still migrate in the search of water which they find in shallow lakes filled with huge monitor lizards, colorful birds and water plants. Close by you can see traditional agricultural landscapes and home gardens filled with forgotten crops. You don't have to pay an entry like in national parks and can walk around freely. The hotel organizes walking tours with a naturalist and has an interesting library on the wildlife of Sri Lanka. Informations difficult to find even in Colombo.

an absolutely amazing experience! wow!

the feeling of being in a spa does not eave you from the moment you enter till the time that you check out - all is peace and calm

the rooms are very different from the regular luxury resort - much more of nature and rustic charm

the service is personal and caring - from the flowers to the aroma oils and candles

the food is very good, though a somewhat limited menu

the spa treatments are superb

it was delightful, through and through

It's a very good choice of stay for those going to climb the Lion Rock in Sigiriya. It's a clean tidy and large resort. Price very good USD110 including breakfast, dinner and standard cottage. Maintanence is good as it's uneasy to do it within a forest. I saw some monkeys around.

Staff nice, dinner buffet fine (you can't expect too much in Sri Lanka). But breakfast buffet is awful, not the food itself, but there are really many many flies. I didn't give a try to those food not covered. One can see the Lion Rock from the restaurant, a nice view.

Room very spacious clean, bed comfy. But there is only one English speaking channel, I wonder.

Arriving here was bliss after a 4 hour transfer from Colombo airport. The hotel was set of an un tarmaced road but it was well worth the journey. On arrival the staff were very attentive and dealt with the reception process very quickly and then proceeded to show us to our room(22) quite quickly. On entering the room we were pleasently surprised at the amount of space we actually had.Even though we were only going to be here for two nights as part of an organised trip the facilities were very good. Some people have mentioned that the rooms were dirty and a bit dated, we found the rooms spotless but yes some of the facilities could do with being renovated, i m not in the business of going round and examining the tile grout or whether the complimentary toiletries had been replaced im just her for a rest and relaxation so as far as i was concerned everything was fine. As we were only there for two nights we made the most of it. Once we were organised and freshened up it was then time for our evening meal, we were shown to our table by well mannered staff and noticed that ther was wine on the table (bottled), the waiter then explained that this was not part of the deal for our accomodation but we could buy it if we wanted it, as we were on holiday and we like a glass with our meal, the waiter took our room number and put it on the bill (£19) as we found out when we came to checking out later. Any way it was nice wine and the last we would get on our trip to sri lanka. The food here was generally very good and of a high quality, typical sri lankan curries and a few european meat dishes, desserts, tea/coffee. After dinner we retired to the bar for a nightcap, the staff again were very helpful again everyrthing gets put onto your room account approx 450Rs for a beer (approx£3.00) and the same for a rather large gin & tonic. After a long day travelling and the thought of Sigiriya rock at 0730 it was off to bed. The beds were very comfortable and clean and it was one of the best nights sleep we had, the surrounding area was silent as were the remainder of the guests who transit through this place at irregular hours.Breakfast can either be continental or sri lankan(curry), cereals, toast, juices, tea/coffee and a variety of eggs again all buffet style and help yourself. Our second day was spent on more excursions but the highlight had to be going up the rock and back down before 10am, before the sun gets to high and the rock gets to busy with other travellers. If you are afraid of heights then this is not for you, however you can go as far as the lions mouth entry and wait there for your fellow travellers if you wish. On arrival back at the hotel it was time to take a dip in the pool, relatively small but very welcoming after you had just spent 8 hours in a minibus travelling around. The pool attendant will get you your bed and towels, all you have to do is relax, get a beer and enjoy the scenery or the monkeys ripping the roof tiles off (to our great joy) glad it wasnt the roof tiles to my room.

Room Tip: any room up to 24 is ideal for bar and restaurant

Located in Sigiriya with a good view and right next to the UNESCO world heritage site, the Sigiriya Village resort offers good Sri Lankan Ambience in its rooms as well as the Lounge. The location is quite somewhat like a forest area with next to nothing to see nearby except the UNESCO site. Cottages are large and airy with a 'double door' which is probably very native to Sri Lanka. We were a group of 11 people and half of them were kids. The kids liked the pool, although the adults thought it could have been bigger. The breakfast buffet was wonderful and we all enjoyed it. There weren't many activities to do in the hotel, though, except watch TV and take a swim. Massage was too costly and we opted for the cheaper ones outside the hotel although it was a bit far away. The only way to reach this hotel though is by your own transport. Food, even though quite good, can be costly and we do not have any other choice outside the hotel either.

My friend and I spent two nights at this hotel. There is great bird watching on the grounds, and for those interested, the hotel and arrange for you to explore with a university trained ornithologist. The hotel staff was very friendly and the room was clean and well kept with all the extras you could want. We had three meals a day here and they were all delicious. While I remember reading about mosquito problems near this hotel, we were there at the height of the mosquito season and I don't think we even saw one.
