We stayed with our family and 2 young kids for 3 nights and we loved it. Upali and his staff were wonderful and particularly good with the children (1 and 3) They were great about catering for them with different food and early dinners. The food was fantastic, especially the coconut pancakes at breakfast! It is in a great location, you can see sigiriya in the distance and most of the other cultural triangle attractions are an easy day trip. We took a safari to the national park to see wild elephants which was a highlight! The pool at the hotel is great, there's even a baby pool. Although it could use some shade around it, perhaps some umbrellas. The rooms were good, clean and spacious. Nothing fancy but had everything you need. As always it's the people who make it what it is and we loved staying here, I would not hesitate to recommend it!

We arrived in the afternoon and were greeted with fresh juice. We enjoyed an amazing lunch before borrowing pushbikes and riding about 30mins throught the paddocks to sigiriya rock. Awesome ride and see a few of the locals on the way.

The rooms and service are sweet. Huge props to anusha, saran, machang, upali and the other staff members (sorry I forgot your names!)

The food in particular was amazing and made from locally sourced and seasonal produce and the chef is a maestro. Particularly enjoyed learning how to make hoppers. Don't stay anywhere else if you are visiting sigiriya.

We stayed four nights at The Hideout and had an amazing stay! The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming to us from day one, treating us like a member of their family. The food is by far the best I have ever had in Sri Lanka (ps. I am from Sri Lanka originally) and is worth the price of admission alone. The rooms are clean and comfortable, with good hot water from the solar panels. The hotel manager Ganathelike even accompanied us on our climb up Sigiriya rock as our tour guide! Upali and Sujatha (the owners) have done an incredible job with this boutique hotel. Highly recommended!!

We stayed two nights at the Hideout in Sigeriya. It was a great place to start our tour!
The first night we were the only two guests, so we had the full attentio of everyone. We had a warm Welcome of the owner Upali and his staff. Wonderful people, nice, friendly and very helpful.
We had a little swim in the pool and relaxed in the beautiful garden with view on the lion rock. Dinner is served in the main house open patio. It was great Sri Lankan food ( Curry and Rice and curd for dessert), and Upali and his staff explained everything to us.
Breakfast was also very lovely and you get more as you can eat.
The 7 rooms which look like houses are basic but okay. Our room No 1 also contained a little kitchen. The room has no air-con which was okay for us since we were there in the cooler rainy season in October. But bugs and flies are a bit bothering, but that is because of the wet season. The bed had a mosquito net, so we were well protected.
Every room has a terrace or you can also use the upper floor in the main building for reading or having a drink and a great lookout over the beautiful countryside.
The Hideout is as the name says a bit hidden in the fields but worth to go. Watch out the signs on the main road. It is also next to the Jetwing Hotel, so your driver cannot miss it.
Thanks again to the lovely people at The Hideout!

We visited this hotel on the first week of September. We had high expectations as we were paying almost twice as much as we had just paid for another hotel in the nearby Anuhradapura, which had been very satisfying, with beautiful and very clean rooms. Sadly, our expectations were not met.

Upali and his wife are very nice and hardworking people, but their hotel is not quite there yet (actually they were always concerned about the guests feeling comfortable, asking if the food was food, if everything was OK, if we wanted to visit the tree house, if we wanted to do this or that... Maybe letting go of the guests a little wouldn't be harmful).

They have a great swimming pool, which we didn't use because we only had one night there and preferred to go sightseeing. We went to the Lion's Rock (it's amazing!) riding two bikes that we rented from them. While one of the bikes was really good, the other one was really old and noisy.

The Sri Lankan food they offer is very good, but they only provide this option for eating. If you don't like Sri Lankan food or want something different for a change you won't find it here. We arrived at mid afternoon without having had lunch and were offered a couple of terrible sandwiches (that also ended up being really expensive as we could realise when we got the bill next day).

We payed for the cheapest room. It was dark, the mosquito nets at the windows were ripped (they ripped them to be able to open the window from inside - the window system is not correctly planned) and the bathroom could be much nicer.

We gave this feedback personally before departing, and they were very open and interested in our opinion. This is a very young hotel and for sure it will be improving with time.

We stayed at the Hideout 3 nights and enjoyed every minute of it!! Swimming pool, very well designed & decorated room, bike ride to the rock, nice recommendation & advice from Upali and his wife... And the best for the end: Fantastic Sri-Lankan food for breakfast or dinner with a very nice service from everyone around!! We can only recommend this place to stay at to chill out and enjoy food at a reasonable price! Do take a bike to go to the rock... It's so nice!!

Upali and his wife were, by far, the best thing about this place - very friendly and accommodating - really great hosts. But, sadly, the place itself fell well below our expectations (set high due to the reviews on this site). There is no air-conditioning in any of the rooms, and we had a room with a noisy ceiling fan, which only served to blow around the hot air. We could not even open the windows in the room because, although the windows had fly/mosquito screens, the screens had holes cut into them, to enable access to the window winders, which almost defeated the purpose of having the screens. It was consequently too hot to sleep.
Noting that the property has only been recently built, more thought should have been put into air-flow for the rooms. Without open windows, our room smelled musky and dank. The furnishings were also pretty basic. Dinner and breakfast were ok, but nothing to crow about.
I'm not sure why this place rates so highly on this site.

We are sorry to hear that our hotel was not upto your expectations.

If you go to http://sigiriyahideout.com/ and check under "stay" it mentioned about having ceiling fans. And we do inform this to all customers well ahead because we are an eco friendly hotel. We always serve food with both Quality and quantity to make our guests feel like home.

I'm sorry to hear your stay was not up to your expectation levels.
