As a local who travel frequently to explore the beauty of Sri Lanka, i have been to many places in the country that offers different experiences to travelers. This is one of the best places I have visited that gave me total relaxation in addition to tasty local meals and spot less cleanliness. Someone who wish to experience the Sri Lankan life in local homely environment this is the best place to be.

If you are visiting Sri Lanka, Kumbukgas Mankada Lodge, with the surrounding activities is a definite must with its just right location, excellent hospitality and delicious food.

It’s perfectly positioned within short distances for every possible interests, immediately just around the corner, for morning or evening walks, you will be able to see the superb view of Sri Lankan farmers working in the field, that one would normally just see only on postcards.

The lodge is also only 15 - 20 min drive from famous Sigiriya (Lion Rock) which is in my opinion the most magnificiant place I have ever been and seen in my life. The Lion Rock is an extraordinary mixture of the power of the man and the power of the nature and as well as all that happened unbeleibavly 1600 years ago.

For late afternoon I would definetelly recommend the 4 wheel drive through Minneriya National Park and elephant watching while enjoying the beautiful sunset.

The architecture of the lodge is a combination of modern comfortable living and natural open sky showers with excellent outdoor place for relaxation.

I feel more knowledgeable and more appreciative of this world after this visit, and that’s how it should be after each day of our life.

Spent 3 wonderful days at this new, secluded lodge in the company of peacocks and friendly staff. Loved the simple, stylish decor especially the little courtyard for the bathroom. The food was simple but very good. The rooms clean. simple but rather hot at night with no A/C. A great place just to relax or go to Sigiriya Rock nearby. However, many drivers don't know about it yet so it can still be difficult to find. Highly recommended.

Lovely hideout, Totally laid back. Great hospitality &super food. Lots of outdoor activities for kids & adults. Enjoyed the jungle sounds, the cry of the peacock and the occasional stomping of the elephants.

This is a small, new hotel in a rural part of Sigirya - I stayed here for 5 nights and had a most relaxing time. Good location for base to discover polonnaruwa, dambulla and the lions rock.

The rooms are basic but comfortable and spotlessly clean. The outdoor bathrooms are very nice. Limited choice of food, but good - The rice and curry is amazing! Staff are friendly and helpful. Saw wild peacocks by the hotel every day and heard wild elephants brush through the trees nearby the lodge one night. I could easily have spent more time here and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a unique place to stay, in a secluded location with good comfort and service.

We stayed three nights in the Kumbukgas Mankada Lodge and we loved our stay.

The lodge has only three very nicely decorated and comfortable rooms. Very special is the outside bathroom - yes, not only the shower is outside, also sink and toilet. It has a very special atmophere when it is raining (and it was raining quite a bit when we were there) :-)

The service is excellent and the food very good even though there was not much choice for dinner (either chicken with fries or curry - all three days). The open veranda is very nice to relax after the visit of the cultural triangle and you can see peacocks from your breakfast table.

The only downside is the 2km dirt track from the main street to the lodge which always adds a bit to the travel time. But because of the remote location the place is very peaceful and relaxing.

The lodge also offers driver accomodation in case you are traveling by car with a driver.

All in all: highly recommended

We arrived after sunset and I'd accidently booked a night in March and not February. Even though they were closed for the night (no bookings that day) they were super understanding, really really nice and prepared our room and set up the hotel as they always would. You would NEVER get that outside of Sri Lanka, such hospitality. We were really grateful and humbled. The place itself is stunning, the sound of insects and local animals in the evening is amazing. The outside bathroom is an experience and everything is designed but in a relaxed way. We loved it. It is located down a long bumpy road but it is worth the effort.

Room Tip: We stayed in the enclosed rooms because of mosquitos, but if you don't care for them they have r...
