“Great place and people to stay with”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2014

My husband and I stayed here for LKR4500 including breakfast/ AC. We had a room with double bed and attached bathroom. A very typical guest house if you have travelled through Sri Lanka, quite basic but clean and nice enough to spend a few nights. The view of the rice fields is lovely from the communal area outside, and its only a 5-10min walk into town. Although the town itself is quite small.

Breakfast was a mix of hoppers, fruit, roti, marmalade, omelette and tea on the three days we ate there. Our dinner was LKR550 per person which we didn't mind paying because the options in town are not many, plus we didn't feel up for walking at night into town. I really liked some of the food, and asked them to make it for me again, which they happily did. We got served chicken, salad, rice and two other vegetables plus fruit (buy drink separate). I think thats not so bad for the price charged, though it depends on your budget, you can get a single plate of food in town for LKR300, but there really is not a lot of variety so we quite liked eating at the guesthouse.

We had a really good time with the family, they were engaged (only if you want to be engaged - you can spend your time out or in your room if you would rather not make conversation). We really enjoyed this, and talked about all sorts of different things. They were so welcoming and loving towards me and my husband.

We found Milton's tour price to be expensive and did shop around to find alternate prices in town as we were on a budget. When we told the family that we got cheaper options, they matched the price for us.

I have read other reviews where people are quite upset about their large bill at the end of the trip or expensive tour prices. That surprised me because the family was very transparent and straight forward about how much things would cost. So when you get your bill there are no surprises.

I'd happily recommend this place to others, and if I ever went back I would stay there.

My only complaint was the slow wifi, which is a common occurrence in Sri Lanka.

The stay in this family run guest house was very pleasant, we stayed for three nights. Rooms are fine and clean as well as the bathroom with hot water. The family is very nice and Milton is good guide and can arrange lot of trips (for a reasonable fee of course). Home made meals are delicious. We can recommend this guest house

We stayed just one night here. Rooms are very clean, we had a large room with an attached large bathroom. Milton and his family were excellent hosts. He has a tuktuk and is an official guide and knows the Sigiriya area very well. He was nice enough to take us for a ride around the area in his tuktuk since it was pouring rain and couldnt go to the rock when we got there in the afternoon. If he stops you at a nearby spa, dont go in there (it's not an up to scratch place, at least for a European. Masseurs kept talking amongst each other, stupid noisy ceiling fan, no music, the ambient was not good for a spa but the massage was almost decent).

Rest was fine :) thanks Milton!

We can highly recommend this nice place that is run by Milton and his family. 24 hours they provide you with everything you need and Milton knows everything about the area and its flora and fauna. He can organize anything wether renting a motorbike, doing some spa things or going on safari and always with very special and fair prices. His wife cooks heavenly, and we had some of the best food here, so far.Just 10 min walk to the Rock
The rooms are very clean with hot water and a/c if you want, but the area outside where you can sit is also very cosy and you can have nice chats with the family members. If we should visit Sri Lanka again, we surely will come back!!

We spent 2 nights at Paradise Inn - to explore Polonnaruwa and Sigiriya rock. Milton's family's hospitality was incredible and a great way to start our trip through Sri Lanka!

The rooms are basic - typical, yet clean, budget room. The inn is part of the family's home set in their relatively large garden. Beyond the garden are beautiful rice paddies and Sigiriya rock.

Milton's wife's cooking is absolutely phenomenal - even if you would prefer to stay elsewhere, I'd suggest organizing a curry at Paradise Inn. She offered option of veg / chicken curry and it came with the best dhal I've had in Sri Lanka, delicious local veg and poppadoms.

Milton was a local tour guide before starting his Inn. He also owns a three wheeler (tuk tuk). Milton therefore drove us to Polonnaruwa and made sure we saw some great sites on the way. He also took us to the Habarana bus station. He was a great guide and we really enjoyed spending the day with him! He is also a great bird spotter and knows all the English names.

I normally prefer to 'shop around' for tuk tuk drivers, but Milton was so knowledgeable and welcoming and he charged a very fair rate - so there was no need to waste time trying to find a better deal.

Overall, I'd highly recommend Paradise Inn - it's a great combination of affordable, yet clean accommodation, a genuinely helpful and great owner (and family), convenience (both location in Sigiriya close to the rock and Milton's help) and fabulous local food!

My search for a place to stay with a view of Sigiriya Rock led me to this very homey Paradise Inn. It's located in a very quiet area of the village, surrounded with lots of trees and its own rice paddy, visited often by monkeys and other animals one normally doesn't encounter in the city. The owners Milton and Nirmala, are both very sociable along with their 3 English-speaking children. I was instantly made to feel like I was part of their family the moment I arrive. Traditional Sri Lankan breakfast fare like hoppers were included in my rate and it was the best I have tried so far! Lunch or dinners were also offered for a bit more than what's offered in the village centre. My bedroom was spotless and so was the large ensuite bathroom - showing how the family has taken effort to maintain their property for succeeding guests.

I highly recommend Paradise Inn for anyone keen on a homestay.

My wife and I stayed three nights at the Paradise Inn in November - one more than we orginally had planned for. We really loved our stay at the Milton family. We were the only guests and were offered the family room, but we found the double room to be more than enough. It was clean, spacious and with a big bathroom with instant hot water. What made the stay perfect, was Milton and his wonderful familiy who was really taking us under their wings, without being to pushy. The homecooking was really great - especially the coconut rotis we were offered for breakfast. We had a fantastic trip with Milton and his tuk tuk to Ritigala were he guided us along the ancient teamples in the middle of the rainforest. Much recommended! And of course: The Sigiriya rock which was one of our best experiences on our holiday. You'll see it from the B&B - and it's only a 15 minutes walk away.
