“Great family”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2013

This guesthouse is run by a friendly and hospitable family. At the bottom of their large garden there's a rice field and superb views of the rock, and about 15 minutes' walk away is a picturesque and peaceful lake. We also had dinner here, which was very good value, and they were happy to cater for vegetarians. Rooms are simple but clean, with optional aircon.

We have stayed in Paradise Inn two nights and we recommend to stay there. The room was very clean, new and big, and the family was very kind and helpful. It is like a family guesthouse, with only 3 bedrooms, and they make you feel like at home. The dinner was very good too.
If we come back to Sigiriya, we will stay there again.

Nearly four centuries back John Milton spoke about the loss of a paradise. Today, thousands of miles away in the timeless glory of a place called Sigiriya, another Milton will speak to you of a paradise that's but his own.

Latter Milton's paradise is a lovely little guesthouse that might not boast the splendour of former Milton's, but needless to say, is graced with so much more warmth and friendliness.

The small number of rooms and the spacious garden (Milton cultivates rice in the back garden, too) allows you too seamlessly interact with other guests, if they're around, and more importantly with the host family. That is, Milton and his wife and their three charming children. The sisters are attentive, helpful, intelligent, and speak very good English (especially the younger one), and the youngest one, a boy, will show you his expertise as the faithful young valet of his father's three-wheeler. And Amma's authentic Sri Lankan cooking will ensure that you won't leave the table with fingers unlicked. She doesn't hesitate with her spices, so if you've found yourself flinching at the degree of fieriness average Sri Lankans enjoy for their meals, you may want to ask her to be less liberal with the spice. Her string hoppers for breakfast and rice-and-curry for dinner are normally very well-prepared and awesome value-for-money; her lunchtime meals are serviceable.

And Milton. Now you must've read volumes written here on tripadvisor about him and his proficiency as a registered area guide (which means he's allowed to guide you not only to Sigiriya and around, but also to as far south as Kandy, if you so wish), his proclivity for bird-watching and thus the ease with which he and his children find a variety of resident birds and other animals for your amusement, as you while away in his garden. But Milton's also quite the conversationalist; he's conversant about Sigiriya's history and its still-largely-natural vicinity. Let him bring you up Pidurangala Rock and tell you of its lores, and, if you behave, take you to this beautiful secret spot we call Milton's Hideaway.

Location-wise, Paradise Inn is located in the center part of the village, a five-to-ten minute ride by three-wheeler to Sigiriya Rock. Getting there is by no means a mission: buses pass the main road extending to Matale, and from the bus stand at the junction there are buses, if a tad infrequent, that'll take you to the Inn. For those with less tolerance to waiting, plan ahead; Milton will be happy to serve and pick you up or deliver you places with his ride. However, just like anywhere else in Sri Lanka, it would behoove you to be firm with your decisions regarding places you want to go and see.

Rooms are clean and unadorned, with en-suite bathroom; they come with great value. Some reviewers have written here about wi-fi connection being on-and-off, but it is more attributable to the children's tendency to be thrifty, as perhaps taught by their parents. They turn the living room lights off when no one is around. If you ask them to keep the wi-fi on until you say stop, like we did, they will do that. After all, how much wi-fi do you need in Paradise?

Room Tip: As of June 2013 the Samarakoons were constructing a few new rooms and already had some brand new and...

An absolutely lovely guesthouse very close to Sigiriya. Run by an incredibly kind and helpful family who will really welcome you into their lives! The rooms are spotless and beautifully decorated, the food is amazing and the father Milton is also a tour guide and can take you to Sigiriya, Pidurangala and lots of other local attractions. We loved it so much we stayed twice!

I stayed in several places throughout Sri Lanka in my 5 week stay there and Paradise Inn was by far the best. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome and were greeted with Milton's lovely family and the best fruit shake on the island! the room was spotless and very comfortable. The location is second to none with a stunning view of sigiriya rock from the bottom of their garden and the food was knock out. Milton acted as our tour guide up sigiryia rock and he was fabulous- even acted as our own personal photographer. A wonderful stay with a lovely family. Definitely recommend this as a place to stay but book early as the rooms go quickly!

We were dropped at the Paradise Inn by tuk-tuk from Dambulla, and so warmly welcomed by Milton and family that we stayed. It was a very good decision because his rooms are clean and comfortable, he has an excellent location where you can see Sigiriya rock, and he took us on great tours at fair prices. We stayed 2 days longer than we had planned.

From the moment i met the family i felt the warmest welcome and at home a , inside cultural unique experience. The view alone in their property sold me , then within minutes Milton our host who is a very informed local guide of the region freely talked to us about the natural and cultural history of our surroundings which was a treat . We extended our stay , loving being part of the family , Milton arranging special tours including off the beat jungle ruins and elephant safaris and never to forget mama tasty cooking , the only problem was leaving , but we' ll going bac again next year and cant wait !!!!
