“Disappointed by this 5-star hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2013

We expected much more from this 5-star hotel. It's an overall good hotel but we missed too many little things in the service such as: simple filter coffee, wifi in the room, bath robes, duvets, regular hot water, a more varied menu (seafood, meat and wine were massively overpriced), more experienced staff.
The suite with the private pool and stunning view was fantastic. The hotel is very clean and the staff friendly. The huge main pool is really enjoyable in the middle of the nature.
We got a 15min welcome massage which was very nice (despite staff arriving late for their only appointment of the day...) but the spa treatments are expensive.

I was thinking for long time to visit Elephant Corridor Hotel since it was said to be first this kind of hotel in Sri Lanka. But my expectations were not met at all. May be the hotel have less experience in handling local guests.

Rooms are nicely designed and as most of the reviews say it need to be refurbished. Because for lesser cost there are many hotels in the same region with more facilities. The path to the rooms was flooded due to the heavy rain and hotel is not prepared for it.

The food was terrible. Cant imagine why the hotel is having a buffet for less than 20 guests. There for less than 3 dishes for the lunch and this was the poorest lunch I ever had in a hotel. Also cant imagine why the pricing (mini bar etc) done in usd?

I have no idea of visiting this hotel for long time.........

Room Tip: Avoid buffet times...

During our stay at Elephant Corridor in June 2013 we really enjoyed the wild life and admired the beauty of nature as the hotel is surrounded with flora & fauna. The staff is very friendly and appreciated their nice hospitality. Our suit was located in a direct view to the lake where the wild elephants enjoy their watersports in the hot sun. Some difficulties we found are that the main pool cannot be used regularly as it is too far away from the suit and we had to call a buggy every time to reach their. Also when it comes to parking vehicles we found our vehicle masked with birds’ dirt as there’s no shelter for the vehicle parking overnight. We had delicious food during our stay, both American and Srilankan but we would like to suggest some more menu selections when it comes to lunch & dinner. Overall we had a nice stay at Elephant Corridor with amusing wild life experience and structural landscaping.

This place is absolutely stunning. The rooms are beautiful and the easel with pastels was the icing on the cake that led us to book here. The plunge pool was so nice to dip into on a hot day and the view from the plunge pool was gorgeous! Service was spot on. There are two things we didn't love--the first was the restaurant--i don't know if there was a different menu or chef or what because the other reviews all rave about the food, but the food was the worst we had the entire trip--breakfasts were great, but dinners....such a shame since the restaurant is so beautiful!
The other is the massage we got. I realize the hotel was slow at the time and they probably need less staff, but it was kind of a bummer to have to get our massages one after the other. The masseuse seemed quite young and the experience was like having sunscreen rubbed on your back for an hour. No pressure.
I would definitely recommend this hotel--it is luxurious and so comfortable--waking up to the view of mountains, trees, and the lake--with a passing herd of water buffalo was unparalleled. We'd have loved to have stayed two additional nights......having dinners elsewhere.

Our trip to Sigiriya began at 12 midnight on the 24th May 2013...Getting into Sigiriya adn the turn off to Kimbissa..there were no landmarks into the left turn to the Boutique hotel only from Vil Uyana would you see the signage..So keep that in mind..When you head to the Boutique Hotel there is an enormous handmade elephant(life size) that scared the hell out of the two of us but in the day time I am sure it would look nice...Yet a little bit of light into the premises would make your customers feel at ease. The property is lovely, food and yes particularly Wijeratne. Then the rooms are gorgeous yet the tree frogs that refuse to leave your room unless you get a net to chase it away. The billiards table in the Bar needs to be really looked at as the cues decided to go flying when we wanted to play. And certain areas needs to be cleaned up. The paint is peeling in some of the villas hence a touch up is a must...The food is really good and all in all it is a super experience. I am sure when it was at the epitome of the Boutique Villas, it would have been the grandest of grand however the owners need to really look after it and not give up on the beautiful property it is. The architecture, landscaping and indeed the interior is absolutely lovely. And the 200 acres it sits on is peaceful and definitely a money can never buy. So Thakshila and Lalith you have alot to do to make this the best boutique hotel and the most talked about...But let me tell you your team in all areas are the very best however they need to be a bit assertive and insist that they come in and replenish the tea cups that we have used which were sitting there for days and replenishing the bottles of water. So in order for you to be better than Vil Uyana that you strangely believe is your competitor get your strategies right and then your market share will be won. also get the horses and stables going and you will have a very sexy product:) Think of Vil Uyana as not a competitor but a partner and ride with it..well done! My husband and loved the place and will recommend it for sure....Also need to mention the innovative way they have alphetized the rooms instead of numbering them. The two wings separating the suites are named Upuladevi and Mugulan as a tribute to the sister and brother of King Kassyapa. Hence our suite was UO...nice and creative...Well done Mr Jayawardena and Ms Phillipan!!!

Room Tip: make sure the plunge pool is cleaned and ask the hotel to clean it before. Because when we got ther...

We had a marvelous stay in . Wonderful interiors, very good service and some excellent dining too, must recommend the hotel's Restaurant for the blini and caviar and some exquisite salmon dishes. Very reasonably priced too for a luxury hotel. Different kind of hotel that make you very close to the nature. Situated near to the Sigiriya and have wonderful view and the hotel also have very good award winning different kind of architecture. Big hotel with Big rooms. Five star food and nice swimming pool. Lots of additional activities like elephant riding, bird watching, etc. Worth...

Excellent service and excellent food. The property is good. However it badly needs a touchup as it is 10 years old. If they do a full revamp while maintaining the current structure for the rooms and rest of the hotel it would be an excellent and luxurious place to spend a quiet holiday. At the moment it lacks the feeling of luxury.
