“Calm and charming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

Lakmini Lodge is calm and charming. Chandi and his family were very friendly & tried very hard to be helpful (if a little disorganised!). On arrival we were offered a home-made lemon juice in the tree house, which has a beautiful view of Sigiriya Rock. Our room was small and basic (as we were expecting) and this was reflected in the price we paid. We were proposed a nicer, newer room for only a little more money which we declined, but this may have been wise as the basic room was very hot and there was only one electric socket, which was needed at all times for the fan. We had dinner one night which was OK. FYI There are lots of mosquitoes in the area - bring repellent! It's really cheap and easy to come to Lakmini Lodge by bus from Dambulla, keep an eye out for Sigiriya post office and get off there, otherwise it's a short walk back from the village.

Room Tip: It's probably worth paying a little bit more for the bigger, newer rooms near the treehouse.

Stayed just the one night and it served the purpose well.

Very good accommodation and service comparative to the price. Just a 10min walk to Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

Request breakfast to be served in the Tree-house that has great views of the Rock.

We had an excellent stay at Lakmini Lodge. The whole family loved the tree house with a beautiful view of the rock, and the joint dinners. The family is very helpful and we enjoyed our three nights very much. Thank you Chandi for an excellent stay!

You get a great homemade lemon juice for a start and the owner walks you to his garden. There you can climb up the treehouse with a Sigiriya Rock view from it.
An owner is the most laid-back SriLankan I spoke to during my trip. Unlike some other hosts does not try to sell you stuff, but gives you tips where to go, so you do not pay too much.
The rooms he offers are ok for Lankan midrange standards and the amount of money you pay is all right for this sort of room (2k).
The place is very close to the rock given that some other guesthouses are 5 kms away and cost the same!
Exellent choice if you are on low-mid budget.

Stayed for 2 nights in one of the AC rooms. Rooms are basic but large and comfortable, with a hot shower which is always good. Dinner was good value although we had better elsewhere as we travelled onward through Sri Lanka. The view from the tree hut is beautiful and breakfast was very good and filling.
Overall the lodge is quite basic but that is reflected in the price for the rooms and it is very good value for money.

Even though the rooms are very basic (at least the cheaper ones, I am not sure about the more expensive ones) this is THE place to stay in Sigiriya. First of all, the owner is one of the nicest, most helpful people we met on our trip. We had trouble getting from Dambulla bc of unscrupulous tuk tuk drivers, and he actually called one of the local bus drivers to have him look out for us on the road and pick us up! And once we arrived he really went out of his way to do everything he could for us. The location is fantastic, one of the closest places to the rock, and he has built a tree house that overlooks the rock where you have all your meals. Best view in Sri Lanka, and one of the best breakfasts we had as well. highly recommended!
*NOTE TO TRIPADVISOR: I think that this hotel should be listed under B&Bs instead of Specialty Lodging. I believe people may miss this wonderful hotel bc its not listed under B&Bs....

This was one of the cheaper places to stay, but the rooms were large and airy and clean. The owner Chandi is a very nice man who will try to accommodate all of your needs. The food at dinner was good value but not spectacular cuisine. However, breakfast more than makes up for it as you sit in the Lodge's little tree house overlooking Sigiriya Rock while tucking into your egg hoppers.
