“Dont Miss It”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 20, 2013

We stayed at the Wild Grass resort for 2 nights at the beginning of December and whilst not cheap it was a really special treat.
The resort is in a lovely secluded location but fairly close to Sigiriya and Kandalama and can be easily reached by bike or tuk - tuk which Tissa the manager will happily arrange.
Tissa was an excellent host and had the amazing knack of gauging his guests, their capabilities and needs.
The staff in general were all very pleasant and discreet. The food was excellent.
The construction of the lodges are first class using lots of natural wood and with floor to ceiling windows, you feel almost at one with nature - especially in the outside shower under the stars.
The highlight for me was sitting on the veranda, with a nice glass of red, listening to the sounds of the bush .Fireflys dancing in the darkness - just magical.
The only suggestion I would have is to reduce the price slightly so more people can appreciate what you have to offer and invest in a couple of decent trail bikes as the 2 for use at present are basic and a little uncomfortable with faulty gears and brakes.......but hey, what fun!

The room we stayed in was a spacious villa with windows to enjoy the views on 3 sides and a balcony. There are only 5 villas in the resort and they're completely shielded from each other - you feel completely immersed in the forest life. It's magical at night with the animal life, proximity of the forest and fire flies flickering at the windows. I liked the large outside shower.

It's not a place for people squeamish about insects. You can keep most out of the room if vigilent but some will creep in and the restaurant is open at the sides. It's not a major problem by any means though unless you have a particularly strong aversion to them.

We mostly had the Sri Lankan curry (breakfast as well) which was a large array of tasty vegetable/meat/fish dishes with rice and rotti.

Service was excellent - they even turn up in a buggy to drive you the short distance from the villa to the main building for dinner. It was a bit on the over attentive side for us, we were the only people staying at the resort and were on honeymoon, it felt a bit odd to always have someone hovering around watching us during dinner.

Despite the isolated location they have wifi in the main building.

There isn't a whole lot to do in the immediate vicinity of the resort although you can spend a day walking round the local forest and village and there's a walk up to a rock for great views. It's well placed for surrounding attractions though (Siguria, Dambulla, national parks) and is a very relaxing and peaceful place to come back to after a day of activities.

Highly recommended! We stayed at Wild Grass for 3 nights in November, 2013. It was our first visit to Sri Lanka and we could not have asked for a better experience. Wild Grass grounds are very secluded and peaceful. You feel very relaxed immediately upon your arrival. The sounds of wildlife are all around and it helped us shift into a slower gear. The villas are beautiful and immaculately clean. The staff at Wild Grass is truly exceptional and they provide the thoughtful and high-quality service. Every meal we ate at Wild Grass was delicious and some of the best food we've eaten anywhere. On our final day we took a bike tour around the surrounding area, meeting farmers and other people in the neighbourhood. Our guide was one of the Wild Grass staff who was a very knowledgable naturalist. It was one of the highlights of our stay in Sri Lanka. Again, very highly recommended. You won't forget your stay at this amazing location.

My husband and I stayed at Wild Grass for 2 nights in August and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The highlight of Wild Grass has to be the wildlife literally outside your window! The staff were very friendly and thoughtful and cared about their guests! Most of the food was good. The reason I have not given 5 stars, is due to the many bugs in the room on the second night (first night there were non). I can only presume that the cleaner left a door/window open. The pool area comfortable and is still in the middle of the jungle! I would really have loved to give this place 5 stars!

A great retreat with friendly and very accommodating staff. We had a wonderful stay and at a reasonable price. The breakfast every morning was nice and the dinner menu was extensive with many options! It is hard to find, but remote and quiet! Highly recommend this resort. Perfect for couples too.

3 nights without much sleep and a 3 hour drive! ....and then the absolute bliss of Wild grass. Chalets were a revelation. Lie on your bed and find yourself drifting off to sleep on a tree top - well almost! Glass walls on 3 sides gives the you great views of the jungle, the mountain or the tank full of wild reeds while lying in bed! Soothing Sounds of the jungle, the soft breeze and excellent service makes the tiring trip worthwhile. The staff led by the ever obliging manager/chef were exemplary despite obviously having to work hard to service isolated chalets. The BBQ was brilliant. My kid enjoyed all the attention and the cool rides in the buggy. Loads of things to do including a challenging climb for the more adventurous. Easy access to Sigiriya, Ritigala & Minneriya.

Room Tip: A room with a view of the lake especially useful during the hot days.
