If you are passing this is a great and authentic way to get a sense of village life as it was until recently and I was reminded of rural India. We had our tour guide on hand so he could ask our many questions for us. It starts with an ox cart ride from the main road to a nearby lake. You transfer to a fishing boat and are paddled across. It is tranquil and the scenery lovely. You come to a traditional village house where your traditional Sri Lankan lunch of rice, lake fish and vegetables is cooked for you on wood fires. While lunch is cooking there are various local crafts explained. You can choose whether you eat with your fingers or with a spoon. It is finished with a short tuk tuk ride back to the car park. Great fun!

We paid for the village tour which included a bull cart, water raft across the lake4 dots and a cooking experience. The best part is the cooking experience, as the village have no gas/electricity everything is made by hand so you see it all made in front of you. The host was very friendly and also let us have a go at making the lunch, using their tools and methods.

At first we thought the tour was on the pricey side but we are happy we did it as it was a unique experience.

Loved the experience of travelling on the bull cart and then the water canoe. The cooking experience was fantastic. It was definitely the best and tastiest food that we had in Sri Lanka. A true Sri Lankan experience. Very hospitable hosts.

This was the first time I tried local veg Sri Lankan food. It is a simple, hygienic mud house where the owners prepare and serve local food. There was a buffet spread which had steamed rice, banana flower curry, mango curry, pumpkin vegetable, and leaves salad. Dessert had banana and mango.
I loved the food, tasted amazing.
