I fully endorse all the wonderful reviews that Water Garden has received. We cannot find a single fault and it is amazing that an hotel that has been open for less than a year can run so smoothly, have such a relaxing ambience and just delivers quality in every area. We stayed in a bungalow with a private pool and as well as being very large with a living/dining area, bedroom, dressing area and bathroom, it was beautifully furnished with everything one might require. Add a terrace with a plunge pool looking at Sigiriya Rock and we did not wish to leave.

This place was magical. Our bungalow was comfortable with a gorgeous bathroom, the swimming pool was stunning with a fantastic view of Sigiriya and the haunting sounds of peacocks nearby. Great food and service. The only slightly disappointing experience was when we rented bicycles: two of us had bicycles that were well past their sell-by date.

Room Tip: All great: the bungalows are set in a beautiful landscape

We absolutely loved our stay at this spectacular new hotel, only six months old. It has a stunning location with the main path through the rice paddies leading your eye to Sigiriya Rock in the distance. The villas are enormous and very thoughtfully appointed. There were so many special touches - here are some examples. Every room was equipped with its own router so wifi was fast and always available. We had a great speaker so we could hook up our iPads and listen to our own music. Every room came with his and hers straw hats to ward off the sun. The bathtub had a little shelf that contained a candle, champagne glass and bookrest to keep your reading material dry. We loved the towel animals that housekeeping created for us daily.

The food was extraordinary and worthy of a five star restaurant anywhere in the world. We do a lot of luxury cruises and said that the food at this hotel was even better than the best meals we have had on those ships. Then we found out the head chef had a background with one of the cruises lines. We had lamb shank our last night there and I declared it the best I have had anywhere, largely because of the delicious sauce that accompanied it. The pastry chef is also wonderful, making such imaginative and delicious creations. We could not believe that food of such quality was available in this fairly remote location. If I had any criticism to make of this property it would be the very high pricing of their wine list and very poor choices of wine by the glass. The only area for imorovment that I can think of.

Another great treat was the complimentary half hour massage at their luxurious spa.

I would return to this hotel in a heartbeat. We would look forward to seeing the many resident peacocks that roost in the surrounding trees and to hearing their welcoming squawks.

Challenging for our driver to find off a winding country dirt road but well worth the ride! We arrived after dark to an enchanting water garden vista. Our bungalow was equally a treat the highlight of which was the private outdoor splash pool off our patio. It is a very new hotel with great attention to detail. The restaurant was also amazing, some of the best food I've had. Very good chef! The staff were also excellent. I left my sunglasses behind and they followed up with the tour company, found our next hotel and had one of their staff deliver them the following day. We only stayed at Water Gardens for two nights but next time it will be for much longer! BTW, the spa is very good too. Had a facial and aruvedic massage.

We came here for our honeymoon. We made the reservation in November for March and the price were quite a good deal because the property is still new and not famous.

The property is beautiful and has the perfect view on both sigiriya rocks. The bungalow is just amazing, beautiful and modern decoration, lot of small detail (Marshall Bluetooth speaker, bathroom accessories, etc) + the private pool! Because we were in the back of the property, we had the best view on the rocks and enough privacy to be naked in the pool. We had the half board plan and were really surprised by the quality of the meals.

The diners were just amazing and compete with any fancy restaurant we have in New York. The breakfast were really generous. I will have preferred more options but it was really great for 2 days there.

The cocktails were also very good and quite cheap.

Last but not least, the service was perfect.

Room Tip: Ask for bungalow 25 or any in the back of the property (more privacy when using the private pool)
